Founding Meeting: Hawaii Defense Foundation

This Sunday at 2pm (23 JAN 2011) the founding meeting of the Hawaii Defense Foundation will be held at my place.

Agenda: Officially elect directors and officers, adopt by-laws, adopt amended articles of incorporation. Make votes specific to the purpose of the organization (civil rights votes!).

People are welcome to show up and see whats going on, and hear the latest news coming right from us. I will provide some refreshments and we can always talk story.

Any more information on the Hawaii Defense Foundation for inquisitive minds?

Section 2. Specific Objectives and Purposes
The specific objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be:
1.   To defend and protect the civil rights of arms1 owners;
2.   To promote, advance and encourage firearms safety.
3.   To educate individuals, including the youth of The United States, with respect to firearms and firearm history, safety, and marksmanship, as well as with respect to other subjects that are of importance to the well-being of the general public.
4.   To conduct research in the furtherance of improved firearms safety and marksmanship facilities and techniques.
5.   To support activities of the National Rifle Association of America or other non-profit2 organizations, but only to the extent that such activities are in the furtherance of charitable, educational, or scientific purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or any similar provision subsequently enacted.
6.   To educate the public, law enforcement, and other government entities on the  ownership, use, constitutional rights, laws and regulations of arms.
7.   To engage in any other activity that is incidental to, connected with, or in advancement of the foregoing purposes and that is within the scope of allowable purposes under 26 U.S.C.§ 501(c)(3).

1Arms as stated is defined as those weapons with, “some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia”. United States v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174 (1939)
2 Other non-profit organizations must be similarly related in purpose to the Hawaii Defense Foundation and approved by the simple-majority of directors.

lol its all good =)

I *JUST* Finished doing a portion of the paperwork, the form 1023 exemption application.  By the IRS own estimate, it takes about 105 + hours to fill out and do all the required work. They only allot 9 hours for legal research though, and I did about 50-60 hours of that alone.  So the time spent is probably around 155 hours I spent to do all this.
