Grabbing the slide when firing?  Still, I wouldn't want to be the first one to try it...

Its just like when a round does not have the power to cycle the action, like shooting .22 super colibri in a 10/22

Thats not to say I would suggest trying it. Probably a good way to make a mistake and blow a finger or more off

Looks like on the last shot in the video, the pistol slide opened slightly... I wonder if it was a good thing he was wearing gloves.

This is a common skill taught in a defensive situation and it is demo'd on a regular basis.  Heck even in my last Glock shooting instructor course they had all of the students fire their Glock pistol while the shooter exerted pressure on the backplate of the slide with the shooting hands thumb.  Not a big deal.

Vou had either be very very fast or the shooter has gotta be pretty stupid to let you get so close in the first place.  Most experienced people would never let you get that close to the gun and will keep you at a 5-15 foot distance with you facing the other direction if taking you hostage.  Even then you gotta be pretty damn quick grab a pistol and pull/push it to the side before someone pulls the trigger.

This is a very uninformed statement.

Elderts did it to Deedy on his last round fired.
Deedy's last round fired never ejected and remained in the gun.
They said it was because Elderts got a hold of the slide.

Too bad he didn't think of it sooner.

I've done in a class environment before and it doesn't take much to stop the slide from cycling.  In one demonstration, I was able to stop the slide from cycling with just my index finger and thumb around the slide.  Yes, the gun will fire, but it will cause a malfunction.

One situation that comes to mind is shooting from retention where you could possibly be engaged hand to hand with an aggressor.  If you aren't careful to have the slide clear from your chest, you can cause a malfunction.  Imagine if you put your hand to make an L-shape with your index finger and thumb and you put your thumb along your chest, the slide (your index finger) can be restrained from fully cycling by your chest.  Rotate your wrist outboard and the slide will clear your chest.

Another application is in personal protection detail where the body guard is wearing armor.  Yes, I understand that won't be a common scenario with most members of this board, but context is the key here.

If you're gonna get shot, better once than... 2 , 3 ,4 ,5 ,6........times.

It won't stop the initial shot, but if you can get close enough, it can cause the malfunction that might save your life.

Of course if you can do the Jet Li pistol disassemble technique all the better.  :D
