Goodyear

So after a long frustrating day at work I stop by Goodyear to get a slow leak fixed. As I walked in I noticed a sign that said "no concealed weapons" with a picture of a gun with a line through it. I kind of laughed at the thought of being allowed to carry concealed in Hawaii. I went in anyways and waited for the tire to be fixed and logged onto their WiFi. When I tried to go to gunbroker.com, it said website blocked by admin due to being in the weapons category. Now this frustrated me and I quickly went up to the counter and asked for my keys back. I didnt mention why, although I now wish I had.

LOL!!!  I used to wrench at a Goodyear shop before, I don't ever remember hearing or reading about that firearm policy.  From the looks of it, it seems as though they are just jumping on the bandwagon.

Kind of glad I basically walked out on that job.  Due to the usual new general manager(2 weeks on the job) and the old school "shake the system up with brute force" type of managerial style.  I got fed up with it and had a flat bed tow truck at the shop within 15 minutes to pick up my tool box.

I would ass-u-me it is a corporate policy, but have no idea. This was at the Kailua location, think I might write a letter or something. Going to Fireatone tomorrow as my wife reminded me that is where we bought our tires and we should have the free flat repair. It was gonna cost $27 at Goodyear!

Kinda threw me, since in HI, I guess the only concealed weaponry is off-duty LEO,  PD Detectives, and I guess armed merchant guards to and fro the work site... right?

So no reason for such a sign on the islands.. right?.

Then I realized you were in Washington State... right?

Good story, though.  I too would do an about face and find somewhere else to get my tires checked or my underwear or my groceries or my spiritual sustenance.

And my money would make the 180 with me.

Must have been an old sign.

I reported to HRA the "No Firearms" sign at Kaneohe Goodyear several years ago.

HRA put it in their newsletter as a place not to go to.

At that time, I did speak with the Manager and told him his store is a victim Rich environment.

Told me that it is corporate decision and can't do anything.

He will let upstairs know I commented on it.

Sign was removed later, don't know about now if it went back up or not.

Same with Safeway.  No Firearms signs on all entry doors.

Again, I spoke with the store manager and expressed my feelings on the subject.

Again, it is from corporate, can't do anything.  Signs are still there.

Years ago, HRA Used to run a list of establishments in Hawaii with a "No Firearms" policy.

When I see a "No Firearms" sign, I make it a point to let the manager know that they are a victim rich

environment for robbery or worse with such a policy.

I also let them know that their company is Totally Responsible for my safety if Hawaii had concealed carry and I didn't in their store

and something happened to me and my family.

If you don't like their policy, you have a right to let them know and take your money elsewhere.

Yes, some of us do not make enough money to pay for fancy phones. I am lucky enough to afford a smart phone, but only with so much data. I like to use free WiFi whenever I can so I do not go over my limit and have to pay extra, which I cannot afford. Also, I do not own any firearms and just had to cancle buying one due to unexpected financial problems. I completly support the constitution in every part of my life, and that includes my freedom to choose where I conduct my business over the most trivial things. Did I also mention that i had a long and frustrating day??? Maybe this help set it off.....

Thanks for the info.  I think it is TIME to refuse to spend money at places that offend freedoms, any freedoms, up to and including 2A.

It must corp. policy. I've seen it at Safeway and other places that I don't remember right now.

Sorry, I leaped to the possibility that the WA in FATMANWA referred to the state.  Not the first time my leaps landed me on my butt.

The Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association has a pretty good handout card for businesses which are posted:

http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/publicfiles/pdf/NGNM-card.pdf

In States where concealed permitted carry is allowed, I believe that a lot of "no guns" signs are due to the fact that store owners, corporations, and corporate lawyers are simply not aware of the fact that permitted carry is allowed by the overwhelming majority of states.

I wandered into a newish Gander Mountain store about a year after I got my carry permit, when the concealed carry law in Colorado was also relatively new and the first thing that I saw was a hand-lettered sign that said all weapons had to be checked in.

I stepped up to the first available cashier and asked to see the store manager and asked him about it.  He said he did not think about CCW permits when he had the sign drawn up, and explained that it really meant that guns in for repair or trade-ins had to be checked in.

The permanent printed sign about a week later had a words to the effect that repair or trade-in guns had to be checked in and spelled out an exception for  concealed carry permittees.

I inquired at my local range when they put up a big "stop sign" that demanded that all guns must be unloaded, because I did not want to unload my carry piece, then reload it after I left.  My position was that unneccesary manipulation of  firearms was a frequent cause of ADs and NDs.  They said it was okay to carry loaded in the range as long as I wasn't going to draw my sidearm, but left it in the holster.

There are unstated complications to that position, but I let the subject alone at that point and just nodded and said, "Oh, OK."

Take the tire off the car, fill a spray bottle with water and a little dish soap and squirt it around until you find the bubbles (leak). If it's on the sidewall chances are you need a new tire. If it's on the tread they sell the sticky string patch kits at any auto parts store for cheap. Keep it in your car with a can of fix-a-flat and you can get yourself out of a jam pretty quick. I had a sizeable screw stuck in the car yesterday and we were back on the road in five minutes.
