Got a question about CMP. How can they ship ammo via FedEx air straight to your home, without going through an FFL?

Since when does ammo have to go thru an FFL?

I think he means how can the cmp ship ammo to you in Hawaii straight to your door since other companies wont ship here?  Or how can they ship to private people and not specific gun shops?

From what I have read and understand they have a exemption under the law.  But they do verify all your info in order to purchase

There's a difference between "can't" and "won't."  There are companies besides CMP that are willing to ship to Hawaii.  I've bought from them on rare occasion.  What gets me is that CMP can do it affordably, while with others, the shipping cost is often greater than the ammo cost.

Thank for the info. I think I might just order through them once to see how things go.

They're awesome.  Just realize they take a really long time to do orders for ammo and guns.  Still waiting on an order from September

This is what it says when I try to check out. How does one show proof to them citizen or club membership? What kind and how do we get membership?

The following items cannot be processed at this time. You may be ordering an item that requires proof of citizenship or membership in an affiliated club, and your file is lacking that information. If proof of citizenship or club membership is required, please fax to 256-835-3527 or mail to CMP, Attn: Customer service, 1401 Commerce Blvd., Anniston, AL 36207. You may be ordering an item that is restricted for club purchase only at this time. Please see the block below for exact reason.

When you intially buy something from them you have to prove citizenship and be in a cmp affiliated club.  There's a list on their site.  They keep that info on file there for future orders as well.

FYI, once the funds are taken out of your account it usually takes 2 weeks+ from that time for it to get delivered.  Not sure what others experience is, but I usually get the shipment prior to the CMP site updating the shipping status.

Thanks I found the list of clubs for Hawaii. Damn! 40 clubs. Had no idea how many high schools are involved.

Just keep in mind that their ammo is NOT always the same spec you can get off the shelves and it is usually packaged loose in bags.  For example, their 30-06 is is spec'd for the M1 Garand in 30-06 Springfield....lower pressures than current manufacture off the shelf.  Keep this in mind for the firearm you wish to run CMP ammo through as it may not function like you think it will.

Those are probably the ROTC/Air rifle teams.

For Hawaii, the largest ones are HRA, Puuloa Club, Chinese Gun Club.  You also have to show proof of a shooting activity such as competition, course, etc.  There is a form on the website the range officer or instructor can fill out for you.  For military, just send them a copy of your LES or enlistment documents or something and you are good to go.

You can also just copy your handgun training course paper

If you do decide to buy ammo esp 22lr the wait is 6-12 months. I have been waiting since march for a case of 22.

I don't mind waiting if it's cheap. Federal Gold .308 168gr is 50% off compared to one of the cheapest stores here. Since I was applying I also applied for Pu'uloa, HRA, and HDA membership.

CMP has some exemptions in the CFR that allows them to ship cheaper.
