Rust protection with Wax

Hi,

Been reading lots of good things about protecting/preserving firearms with Renaissance Wax.  Apparently that's what lots of museums use including the NRA museum in Virginia.  Just wondering if anyone uses wax here in Hawaii to protect.   Particularly interested in blued or antique guns.  If you do, how do the guns shoot or is it really for safe queens?

Ren. Wax is a high grade microcrystalline wax. I first heard of it on a straight razor/shaving forum folks would cover their straights to protect them in between uses or for longer term storage. I bought a can from Woodcraft a few months ago to apply to my Mosin-Nagant M91/30 after I de-cosmolined the sucker and got it all cleaned up. I applied it to all metal and to the stock. There is a fair amount of info on the web with regards to using Ren. Wax on firearms, all I can say is try it get a can it will set you back $30 something dollars and see how you like it.

I guess this begs the questions:  How do those of you who own collectable firearms store them here in Hawaii.  My guns, ammo and reloading supplies are stored in a locked room, air conditioned to 70 degrees and I run a dehumidifier to 50% humidity.

I had quite the shock when my home protection shotgun (which is not stored in the room) had visible surface rust after only four months in my closet.  Convinced me to upgrade my main storage to include the dehumidifier.

I found this document on the NRA Firearms Museum website.   Pretty interesting for anyone looking to preserve antique firearms from people who do it every day.
