i do what i can
i appreciate the at least 15-20 2aHI guys that showed up, especially 1911, who brought his kids
the mayor saw them and talked to them, so that helped
and you should've seen all the guys come when i told them the parks director was looking for commitment for a work day
i walked over to the bench and asked them, and 6 or 8 of our guys walked up to her and said they are in
i recruited someone else who walked up with his wife/girlfriend and asked mike if there was something he could do
he pointed at me, and i said just read 2ahawaii.com and show up

if this happens, we need contact with hra/life, and all the other groups to get as many people there as possible
we are all going to need to spread the word
i told mike and the parks director, if we have permission, we should take advantage before someone thinks otherwise
mike said he has been asked by many people to help, but always has to turn them down due to liability

Wow way to go 2a Hawaii guys

Did anyone take a lot of pics of everyone supporting the mayor.... Pictures are worth a million when providing evidence and testimonial...

If we get them involved, I want them to give credit where credit is due. Macsak, as a rep of 2a Hawaii and HDF, arranged for this to happen, and I don't want HRA or Life taking his credit.

I know you are a humble guy mac, but I really hate it when people or organizations take credit for the hard work and ingenuity of others.

All the people that know, will know.
I wouldn't want people and their big head to not help, participate, cock block, stop us and try to set it up so "their" group can get the credit. This is for the shooting community.
Big heads and even bigger egos are part of what killed the race track.  Let's not have that happen to us.

no, no, no
i am NOT a rep of 2aHI nor HDF
i am just a guy
this is not about credit
this is about taking advantage of the fact that people want to get something done (and rubbing it in knudsen's face)
and we need as many people and groups involved

Hopefully I'll be on KHON tonight and hopefully with few edits/spins. I know the news crews were having a hard time talking to people because many were military and not able to appear on camera.

Macsak, i volunteered with Mike to do some welding. You're now coordinating the volunteer effort so shoot me an email at ross@oahumakerspace.com

I think the important thing that came from this is that the mayor recognized that the range is THE most utilized city park and said that he would expedite the permitting process for the improvements.

Think we could get the sponsors of the board to put up flyers about the work day in their shops at the registers?  The more we get to show up the better.  That'd really be rubbing it in his face.  I'm relishing the idea Knudsen will finally know what a sweaty human scrotum smells like 'cuz I'm sure he's very familiar with what a feline one smells like.

First of all, it was great to finally meet all of you after lurking for so long. And thanks again Macsak for the great suggestion to clean up the range while it's closed.

I overheard Knudsen talking to the mayor about how dangerous it is to have the range in such close proximity to residential areas, and he was explaining that a round can easily hit someone on the Koko Head trail (stairs) or go over and hit more homes. He was explaining to the mayor that a wall needed to be built along the trail, or the range should be fully enclosed to prevent these possibilities.

I kind of butted in to tell the mayor that any of these incidents that are being reported and used as fuel to make changes to the range are irrelevant to the rifle range itself. All of these incidents that Knudsen just brought up are only possible by a negligent discharge, which is not an issue that pertains only to a rifle range, but to everyone’s home throughout the whole country. It is the responsibility of us, the firearm handler, to prevent ND’s, not only at the range, but in every situation in which a firearm is handled. I asked if he (the mayor) is planning to make rules to prevent ND’s throughout the whole island and everybody’s home. The mayor knew exactly where I was coming from and said that would infringe on our rights as gun owners. He also mentioned that they find bullets in Waikiki, and of course they don't automatically assume it came from Koko Head. Why should it be different in HI Kai?

After the mayor left, Knudsen came up to me and asked if I heard him telling the story of the round going by him while he hiked the koko crater ridge (about the area above the old 450m steel target). I asked how he knew it was a bullet, and he stated that his brother, a Vietnam vet, recognized the sound of a bullet whizzing by. I pointed out the angle that would have to be fired for it to reach that high on the crater.  He seemed genuinely surprised by this info, although he still sticks to his story. I also explained the distinct cracking sound that a round makes as it flies by. In my opinion, its pretty hard to forget that sound.

I was just trying to make a point that he shouldn’t jump to assumptions without hard evidence.

good job

i want to stress it was not MY idea to clean up the range when it's closed
i brought up to the parks director that 2aHI members had asked why we couldn't volunteer (since we are always told it is a liability issue)
the parks director thought it was a GREAT idea and came up with the notion we could do it since the rifle range was closed anyways
and she brought it to the mayor's attention and then talked with mike
if it comes to fruition, this is happening because of 2aHI members, not because of me
i just want people to show up, because if no one shows, then it's going to be on me

You are a better man than I.

Know how I react, I somehow would have referenced his cats in a derogatory manner.

He mentioned that he's been "attacked" on internet forums, and how he wished that people would educate him instead of bash him.

I wished I asked  him "What do you expect when he attacks a whole community?" He's basically accusing us of firing into the sky, and is actually accusing the range officers of neglecting their duties. I find that pretty offensive.

Trust him to play the victim card.  What did he expect?  He's messing with people's livelihoods, their means of feeding their families and keeping a roof over their heads.  And he's wondering why none of the  LGS' sent him a Christmas card?  I'm playing the world's smallest violin for you Gregie can you hear it?   :grrr:   For someone who's college educated he's pretty fucking dumb, IMO.
