When is your collection too big?

My wife recently asked me when will I stop buying guns. I answered "when you stop buying shoes". No but really when is your collection too big? How would you measure that? Number of guns or how much you spent?

Tell me  your thoughts

It seems the Obama Govt thinks you should have none.

So in the Obama political correctness is NONE

And the media thinks if you have more than 1 youre a bad guy.

And Homeland Security thinks if you have more than 2 you're a terrorist.

More than 3 guns is an arsenal.

My guess is when physical space starts running out, or you neglect things like healthcare or eating or work or something.  Stocks can go to zero.  What's bitcoin doing today, it got slaughtered yesterday.  Meanwhile every round you didn't fire is still there waiting in the box or mag, stored value outside of the system.  Don't put all your eggs in one basket.  Although I sure wish I bought every Colt Python etc. I could've way back when.
Assault Rifle? What I have here is an Anti-Assault Rifle.

When you have to check the safe each time you want a new gun to see if you already own that one!

Sorry to sound harsh but this is a silly question.  Who am I or anyone else for that matter to tell another person that their collection is too big?  Unless if they are neglecting feeding their kids or something else morally incorrect or illegal, it is not the business of anyone else.

I've had to move a few de-milled antiques out of the safe as I have been able to acquire a few nice examples of classic battle rifles lately.

The obsolete calibres have been a challenge, but WGS has come though by stocking the out of favor ammo

When is your collection too big? When you know how much you got.   :shaka:

For me, it's a question of space.  I could, conceivably, squeeze a couple of more longarms into my safe.  If I were to fundamentally reorganize, abandon the principle of having every handgun in its own case, I could handle twice as many handguns.  ut it's really close to the point where I either have to rethink the storage concept altogether, or sell to buy.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

For some reason, I'm always just one gun short of having a complete collection....

I've stopped buying safes and have just started to lock the room I keep my guns in...

Hmmm should I buy another safe (I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building which has no elevator, already got 3 standing safes, they are full, they weight a ton, and they are taking up way too much frigging space) to hold 8-10 more guns or should I just buy 8-10 more guns?  Hell I don't even know if the floor will support the weight of another safe...

I have access to building code data for all apartments in Hawaii.  I can tell you what the load limits are on your floor, and whether simply pushing the safes against a load bearing wall is sufficient from a liability perspective.

All I need is your address, and an idea of when you'll be home in case I have any questions....

Too big?

Ideally, if I was a multimillionaire, I'd want my collection of rifles and handguns to be at least 50 each, with enough ammo to supply them for years and years. I'm thinking the storage and upkeep of anything over a 100 would be too time consuming for myself.  But I wouldn't begrudge anyone if they wanted a collection of hundreds or thousands. (It's your money and you have the right to do with it what you want.)

When your biggest fear is when someone breaks in and you don't know which gun to shoot them with.

Rennfahrer, is that your gun collection?

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
