Status of current carry bills introduced by Sam Slom

Hello all,

I took a look at the status of SB274 (Concealed Carry) and SB262 (Open Carry) VIA http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov and found that the bills have been "Carried over to 2014 Regular Session", this occurred on12/18/2013 .
What do you folks think about this? I think it would be awesome if we could take that list of people committed to the CCW endeavor that has been discussed and suggest that these folks call every senator to support these bills as well. I think it would really help out. I am thinking about making a trip down to Honolulu and seeing about talking to these folks (not all of them at once because "aint no body got time for that" lol) about the bills and plead our case. I know this would be difficult but, if we have large numbers of folks sitting down with these senators face to face it could change their thinking about permits to carry for self defense. Heck, if most of us can’t make it down, I think a letter would be sufficient. Thank you all for your time and input!  :shaka:

P.S. While not introduced by Sam Slom, A Hawaii Assault weapons ban has been “Carried over to 2014 Regular Session” as well. Should we be worried about this? Does anyone have any info on this? Would this bill call for confiscation of assault weapons possessed by current owners? Thanks

yes, we should write letters for sen slom's bills
no, it won't make a difference, he introduces these every year and they fail

yes, we need to be worried about an assault weapons ban, VERY worried
i will write a separate post later on (we need a fight club icon)

A concealed carry bill is introduced almost every year and it never makes it to a committee hearing. The only way to get it hear, and therefore advanced through the process is to make the legislators think they need to pass it along or their election chances will be negatively affected. How do we do this?

As for the assault weapon ban, while we need to watch it, and maybe be preemptive in making the legislators afraid to pass it, I don't see a huge push for more gun control or legislators willing to risk alienating a significant voting block...again, how do we do this?

We did it last year by mobbing the legislature hearing on one of the earliest hearings, the instructor immunity bill. But since we don't want to wait for the concealed carry bill to make it to a hearing (if it even does....) or for the assault weapons bill to come up to the hearing at all.
