Grassroots Call to Action: Legislature Opening Day is this Wed Jan 15, 2014 (Read 2389 times)

Jl808

This Wednesday Jan 15 at 10am, the legislature opens again and this is when folks are encouraged to go and see their senators and representatives to say "hello".  This usually goes on until around lunchtime. Some may have snacks in their offices for their visitors.

If you are not a registered voter, please go register already.  Your voice counts more if you are a registered voter in your legislator's district.

Go there to meet your representative and senator and help EDUCATE them about the concerns of gun owners. As a resident of your district, your voice only counts if you make the effort to actually voice them out at the appropriate time. This is one of them.

Dress appropriately. Don't miss your chance to make an effective first impression. If you want to be treated with respect, then dress the part too.  Chances are, it is human nature to first judge someone based on one's outer appearance so stack the odds in your favor.

Be respectful in your speech and ask them questions. Might be good to hear what their priorities are for your district this year so you know what's going on in your areas. Ask them if there are any gun bills this year and what their stances are on it.

We are not there to get mad at them but to EDUCATE them because, most likely, they don't know what you know. If you think there's an opportunity, ask if you can meet them at another time to discuss your concerns in more detail. It would be a good time to organize your fellow neighbors and go as a group.

Better to gain allies than enemies, so I suggest minding your manners while there.  Bring a box of manapua or something for their staff.

Those that are ideologically anti-gun, take note who they are so we will know who are our enemies come voting / election time.

I plan to visit my senator and representative and just introduce myself and have a nice chat. I also plan to visit some of the senators and representatives who have gone out to support gun owners to thank them personally.

Pls pm me if you're going too and maybe we can meet up and go as a larger group (if can).  If you know other people in your area, maybe you can car pool and visit your reps together.

There's metered parking under the Capitol, or at Iolani Palace. Otherwise, parking is kind of hard in the Capitol so please plan accordingly.

If you don't know who your legislators are, enter your street address and do a search from the legislature's website.
