A back story would be good maybe a location from where it was jacked could be useful.  Thanks

Stolen from my residence in Honolulu, rifle was just acquired last week and I really feel that I was targeted somehow because all that was taken was the rifle and 2 empty backpacks, nothing else was touched.  I really just want to put this out there so nobody buys a stolen rifle.  It's not an expensive rifle, certainly not worth a felony record for the thief.

People would still buy guns even though it's stolen, especially criminals! It's not an expensive rifle and not worth the charges to you, but to the thieven criminal who has it now has the upper hand on unarmed citizens. Now we have to worry about someone with a semi auto rifle" not assault rifle!" running around oahu doing criminal activity that could jeopardize our fragile firearm rights...

From what it sounds like they knew were the rifle was in the house and they probably streaked out or knew your schedules. More likely it might be an inside job....

Then again brother good luck, the rifle will turn up eventually, hopefully when it's not to late or at a crime scene. :shaka:

Icehead hanging outside of Waialae 7-11 today. He was sitting on the curb, covered in open sores from scratching his skin off and counting a big wad of cash. Kind of made me feel sick just looking at the dude knowing he just fenced somebody's stuff to buy some shit. Don't know why I'm sharing this because it probably wasn't the same guy. It feels like it could have been, though. everyone stay safe out there.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

Now, don't go jumping to conclusions.

He might have just cashed his middle-of-the-month gov't check...

or, he could have received his royalty check from his acting job -- playing one of the Zombies in The Walking Dead!  (no make-up needed!)

Wow! Good luck finding your rifle. I don't yet have a large gun safe but all my weapons are secured to prevent somebody from just walking off with it.  All are in hard cases chained down with heavy gauge cable. Not at all theft proof but it will hopefully slow a thief down.

Edit: kaloman beat me to my?

Good luck I hope your rifle is found. Was the theft reported to the Police? If you don't have a safe/storage container others have mentioned alternative storage methods above, another option is to store in pieces so as thief can't take the whole rifle as easy, i.e. upper in one location with bolt removed and then the lower in a different location. I have one rifle that is too long for my safe so it is secured elsewhere with the bolt removed and secured in the safe, without the bolt she is just a fancy club.

By law, there is only one situation where a firearm is required to be locked up:

Quote
[§134-10.5]  Storage of firearm; responsibility with respect to minors.  No person shall store or keep any firearm on any premises under the person's control if the person knows or reasonably should know that a minor is likely to gain access to the firearm without the permission of the parent or guardian of the minor, unless the person:

     (1)  Keeps the firearm in a securely locked box or other container or in a location that a reasonable person would believe to be secure; or

     (2)  Carries the firearm on the person or within such close proximity thereto that the person readily can retrieve and use it as if it were carried on the person.

For purposes of this section, "minor" means any person under the age of sixteen years. [L 1992, c 288, §1]

On the other hand, most gun owners concerned with preventing theft/"guns in the wrong hands" will buy a safe regardless of what the law requires.

What constitutes "proper storage" depends on the standard you are applying...

Common sense standards!  Duh.  Lock up your shit so it don't get stolen or someone's kid shoots themselves or someone else with it.  Common freaking sense.  Can't argue with that!

Stolen firearms is one way the people that shouldn't have firearms obtain them.  Then, you get shit like Aurora, Sandy Hook, and others.  It is part of the problem with a very simple solution.

Why you would argue about this is beyond me.  If you don't think that secure storage of firearms is important then you are part of the problem.  You don't need laws to tell you that the best way to keep firearms out of the hands of those that should not have them is to lock them up and store them securely so access is severely restricted.  Every time a kid shoots up his school with a firearm that he/she shouldn't have access to the Second Ammendment takes a hit.  If you don't agree with the safe and secure storage of firearms, maybe you shouldn't have them either.  If you leave them under your bed and they get stolen (not that this happened to OP as he hasn't given the details of his storage arrangement) you had it coming.  This is the kind of stuff that make it difficult to defend your right to bear arms.  C'mon.....

Yes sir Bud! When I took my NRA firearms safety course the instructor stressed clearly the amount of responsibility that weighs in when owning a firearm. From how one carries himself when handling the firearm to, of course, this topic of locking up your firearms. Without question as a responsible firearm owner we are required to secure our firearms in a locked safe; not because it is "law" but because we are "responsible" firearm owners.

As stated above this is how firearms turn into weapons in undesirable hands…+1 on your comments Bud.

I hope your m&p sport is found safe and sound and a good lesson is learned. Please contact HPD if you have not already.
