I'm just making an observation/comment that I don't see the practicality. I would never even consider this for home defense. Are you saying this would be your choice for a home defense weapon? Just trying to understand the logic here.

Home defense? Why not? More maneuverable than a rifle or shot gun and thirty rounds without two mag changes. There will always be the debate for home defense weapon; shotgun, rifle, semi-auto pistol, revolver, axe, baseball bat, and now we can add the semi-auto 5.56 pistol with a permanently attached magazine.

The muzzle flash would be like a fireball from a pistol length barrel AR.

It would be blinding as you fire off 2 rounds in the middle of the night, ruining your night vision.

Not to mention the increased sound of a rifle round fired from a pistol in confined quarters.

So, you'd be blind and deaf after the first shot.

The perfect victim.
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Any gun fired in a confined area without ear protection will cause your ears to ring pretty badly. Any gun can be argued for use in home defense situation and every gun has pros and cons. I agree with you that the muzzle flash is a lot greater than an ar rifle but again, any firearm in a dark, confined hallway will likely cause a flash bright enough to hurt your eyes and is loud enough to make your ears ring.

I was not saying that my ar pistol is my hd choice, it is not. I don't even keep it loaded while it is in the safe. I was just stating that I believe a case could be made for it to be used practically as such.

Although it is not my choice for a home defense weapon I could see a case being made for this type of firearm. Even if you can't find a practical reason for owning an ar pistol, just the fact that it's a hell of a lot a fun to shoot is enough for me.

Last summer in anchorage my brother and I were shooting into a hillside at Jim Creek just after the sun went down and one thing I remember is that in low light conditions even a 9mm handgun produces enough flash to hurt your eyes when you are looking down the sights.

I was told by HPD last week that when registering the completed pistol, the magazine must be fully and solidly attached at the magwell or your lower may be confiscated.

They try scare you.
The AG never issued an opinion on this matter , but you may have to go to a full trail just to get a legal firearm back.

If they (HPD) keep this crap up.
I'll just register a bolt action AR with a detachable magazine.

I was also told this by the sgt.

Attempted to register 2 that day. 1 passed/1 failed
This is what the accepted one looks like

the other one that failed was an aero lower with a aluminum center industries magazine
hole was drilled in the front of the magwell and then filled to the mag
the mag was able to slightly rock in the magwell - similar to it being held in with the standard mag catch
In no way could it be removed without rendering both pieces useless
but I was told that with tools, it could be removed.

the "accepted" one uses a billet mag made by "precision by design"

Definitely a coolness to this. More power to you given the endeavor. This is what we law-abiding citizens are doing to be law abiding, imagine what criminals are doing. DEYNOKEA! Laws only work for us  don't work for bad guys. Cuz we're good people

if it fails do they allow you to take it home to try again, or do they confiscate it?
