“Additional modifications need to be made to the rifle range to bring it up to safety standards.  My feeling is the rifle range should be closed until those improvements are made.  Is it going to take somebody getting hit by a bullet before we wake up to the fact that this is not an essential city service?” said Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board member Gene Tierney.  Why we can certainly do that Mr. Tierny if you're willing to trim a little fat off the Bill of Rights.   So the continued operation of our parks is not an essential city service?  Who do you think is going to take care of your feral pig problem in Aina Hina Mr. Tierny?  Fewer animal control officers due to budget cuts, cops got other crimes to follow up on.  Hunters Mr. Tierny is the answer.  What's that you say, hunters don't need guns?  Oh, ok, here's a hunting blade Mr. Tierny good luck and don't let the buggah gore you.  Make sure you get him good because it'd be cruel to let him suffer.

they edited his quote
what he said was "not an essential city service like the sewer or the bus?

Agreed!  If anyone should see the "cat lover" at the range after hours they should observe and/or better yet record him on cell phone video.  I don't think this will be the last we see of our feline friend.

That's fine with me! Come on Knudnuts....get them to let me shoot behind my house so we can all live in peace!  :geekdanc: :geekdanc: :geekdanc: :geekdanc:

yeah, there's an EIS published in the early 2000s
says upper and lower baffling needed to prevent shots going anywhere but to the target
bullet catching berm too
basically, turning the out door range into an indoor range

gknuds says this leaves the city open to huge liability if someone gets hurt, since the city has been aware of the problem for so long and did nothing

I can't get past this nagging idea that somebody fired the offending bullet through the window with a slingshot just to stir up the incident. :grrr:

I think, therefore I am armed.

I see.  An EIS is not law nor establishes safety standards.  and now the range has been improved.  Thanks for the info macsak.

It's kinda' like my neighborhood.  They've gone and put us homeowners through the wringer with speedbumps by first putting them in, then adding more, then removing all for repaving, then putting back in, then adding even more, then making them higher, all for what ifs that have never happened but just in case.  Why?  Maybe because I have learned one of the Board Members is employed by the speed bump contractor!  How convenient.  You got to be sh#tting me conflict of interest, right.

Maybe there's something here too, a secret motive as to why this guy keeps attacking the range with such fervor and animosity.  What does he stand to profit at our expense really.   That brass ring must be pretty shiny.

Keep the Range a Range

Save KHSC!

ps. Thank you whoever puts bar soap on the sink in the loo. We need it to wash hands and I appreciate the effort.  It is our only range.
