I am looking to get an ar-15. Was wondering should I get a colt 6920 or s&w mp 15

Either would be nice entry level (don't know if that's the right term) AR's.   If you're talking MP15 Sporter you'll find a few features are absent, the ejection port door & forward assist come to mind.   But a standard MP15 will have pretty much what the Colt 6920 does.   Both are about the same retail, both are often found on sale online and even locally from time-to-time.   I can't speak to overall quality of the MP15 but do own a 6920 SOCOM.   I love it, no issues and it eats brass or steel cased ammo without a stutter.   This is certainly not the case with my Bushmaster ;)

Colt 6920.  There's a few different variants.  The stock one, magpul edition and socom, cheapest to most expensive.  The M&P sport is fine too though.  The colt will have a 1:7 twist allowing for heavier loads and have other features like boomah said.  I can't remember if the barrel and bolt on the M&P is mpi and hpt inspected though, or if the carrier is staked.

Everyone has a personal preference (and some brand snobbery). But the truth is that any quality AR from a reputable manufacturer has the same basic specifications and can be built up/modified to fit you and your needs. Because of that, I'm 99% sure that whatever you choose now will be different in a year or two.

So I think the best advice is to get out to the shops to "fondle" a few (AR's) and/or get out on the range and ask to try out what other have. Then you can make your own informed decision.

the m&p (even the sport model) carrier is staked and the bolt is hpt/mpi

colts have better resale and 1:7 barrels. m&p15s have 1:9 barrels now, but used to come in 1:8 which was sweet and what i have.

if youre buying brand new manufacture i would lean towards colt out of the two brands. m&p15t's and or's are pretty close in price to colts. only the sporter is a real deal if you dont mind the barebones upper receiver.

Shoot...I know a guy that is still on island who sells them. Really fair prices, then you can upgrade the parts YOU want to upgrade as you decide to. I will look for his information and PM it to you!

I'm not sure what you're using it for but I would make sure you do the research and get a milspec rifle.  Depending on your budget, you should be able to get away with spending not that much on the rifle and investing in some good iron sights/optic and ammo.  Best of luck.

I vote 6920. Like the other guy said, better resale when you decide to start building your own ars. =D
