Shipping stripped receiver thru USPS?

Has anyone shipped a stripped rifle receiver through the mail? Would you have to declare it as a firearm, and if so, would it raise some eyebrows if you're declaring it as a rife, but it's in a box the size of a pistol?

Well, a stripped receiver is considered a firearm so you do need to declare it. I'm not sure if you can ship it as a rifle though. As a stripped receiver, it may be considered an "other" type of weapon that can't be shipped the same way long guns are. You may want to check with the ATF or your courier of choice on that.

Yeah, seems like a gray area. Just hate to have to pay extra shipping when all I need work on is the receiver. Thanks guys.

A stripped receiver is by definition a firearm and has to be shipped to an FFL. (if you're buying it)

I don't think it is a problem as long as it has been manufactured as a rifle receiver.
Definitely must be shipped to an FFL unless you own it and you are sending it to yourself.

I just got a bolt gun receiver sent through USPS to OGC.  Call them up, they will give you the right answers for sure. ;D

Also, don't forget to register it with HPD in the time required by law.  Even though it is just a receiver it is still considered a firearm.

This is actually off of a gun I own. I was thinking of having work done by a gunsmith on the mainland.

Not 100% positive, but if you already own it, you should be able to ship it to yourself or a gunsmith for "repairs" without going through an FFL. I shipped a pistol (complete) back to the factory and it went through the mail.

You can send a rifle through the USPS either to yourself or to an authorized agent (FFL/gunsmith/manufacturer). You do not have to declare it, file any special forms, or mark the packaging. Just send it registered and insured. I have done this many times and as long as you are the legal owner, it is 100% in compliance with DMM 601.12.3.
