let's talk micro red dots
« on: March 18, 2014, 12:37:56 PM »
DL had a Vortex SPARC at his shop on saturday night

it got me thinking, what do other members think about Aimpoint T1/H1 vs similar sights?

i've got a primary arms from the first garage sale
others have the bushnell and other clones
i am not arguing whether or not the Aimpoints are more rugged and have longer battery life and have better QC
just interested in knowing what everyone has, and how they feel about the value proposition of the various brands

Maybe it's just me but I looked at a SPARC (1 not 2) at Sports Authority and I couldn't see a pronounced red circle.  Instead I saw some distorted shape.  I saw a similar distortion through a Primary Arms T-1 replica.  It got me wondering if it's the "cheaper" red dot or just my eyes.  I have yet to look through a T-1, but I'm praying that its dot will look more like a dot in that $650 sight.

I've read a ton of great things about the SPARC, which is why I was planning to buy one for my GSG22, however, now I'm not sure anymore.

I seriously considered Aimpoint T1 and H1 but then went and bought another RMR again. It is faster target acquisition. The tube red-dots have the tube walls that block the sight picture for a moment. Same with the Trijicon SRS.

Maybe if hunting is the application, H1 would be better than RMR.

And if you'd come into work today, you could have looked through a T-1

parallax is the most common issue with some red dots in my experience. Aimpoints have some parallax at close distances but it was not as apparent in other red dots sights. I did notice parallax in the Primary Arms RDS. It wasn't mine but I sampled it at the range.

I have Aimpoint T1's, H1's, R1's, PA Micro's, Bushnell TRS-25's, Eotech's(bunch of em) a Burris red dot, an AIM brand...

The Aimpoint Micro's are extremely hard to beat.

Eotech's are great on AR platform.

Everything else pales in comparison.

Check your vision before you check your red dot. Any vision impairment in your eyes may result in a distortion of the shape of the aiming reticle. Clusters or bluming effects are not uncommon where red dots are concerned. If the vision in your right eye is different from your left, you may be able to verify this phenomenon by switching eyes when looking through a red dot optic.

How funny.

The whole reason I like Aimpoints is because I seem to get on target faster with the micro's than other RDS's.

Aimpoint T-1s and H-1s look the same, sorta like a blob of a red dot, not like a distinct circle.

I have an aimpoint t-1. i could not get it to be a sharp perfect circle. turning it up gave some glare feedback and turning it down didn't help with the sharpness. now on my eotech it's super clear and sharp. it could still be my eyes though as my dominant is my left and if i close my left it does help with the sharpness.
Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

You shouldn't be concerned on how sharp the dot on the Aimpoint is because you should be using it more for aiming reference and focusing on the target.
