cigar room
« on: March 19, 2014, 08:13:58 AM »
there are a few things in life that I enjoy:
driving my Mustang, shooting my guns, sipping a smooth Bourbon, and a great tasting cigar is the cherry on top
I may only smoke 1 cigar a month, most times less.

these are at the top of my list:
Henry Clay
Punch
H. Upmann
Hoyo de Monterrey
Montecristo

I prefer ones that are not too expensive, but still great quality.
Henry Clay was my first brand that i bought a box of.  and they still taste the best to me.
I like a darker, maduro wrapper, and it has to be well constructed.

maybe we can share what we have found to be good finds, there are so many brands out there.
life is too short to smoke cheap cigars.   :shaka:

Different flavors for different palates. With such a range of prices, it's really hard to narrow down what to get.

Good cigars on a budget:
Ramon Bueso
Diesel
Undercrown
J. Fuego
PDR 1878

Good Cigars at any price:
Liga Privada
Illusione
Padron Anniversary
Opus X
Arturo Fuente Anejo
Ashton VSG
Casa Magna

On Monday I loaded some 300 win mag with my buddy in preps for an African hunt later this year. After we were done we enjoyed a San Cristobal Revelation. Coincidentally, while enjoying those fine cigars, the mailman delivered the latest issue of Cigar Aficionado. In this issue, they rated the Revelation a 92. There were no others any higher this month.

I indulge in the occasional cigar.  Padrons and Romeo Y Julietas tend to top my list.  The last cigar I smoked was a Casa Magna, and it was very good, especially for the price.

i got a sampler several weeks ago, and one cigar that i was pleasantly surprised with in that sampler was JR Ultimate
i thought it wouldn't be that great since its a online company branded cigar, but at the same time its not a cheap cigar
i got the Principales JR ultimate, wrapped in cedar.
had a nice, rich taste, and was really well constructed.

Guess I am still young cause I like a lot of the Acids, especialy the KubaKuba (they are really sweet). But I also like the meduros, most any brand that I have tried so far at least. I have to say the best cigar I have ever had was some I got in Panama while on patrol down there. I got a Cuban Cohiba #7 (I think #7), very nice after a long watch in the engine room thats 110+ degrees.

Fatmanwa and Q can be friends, lol. Hey Q, wasn't it you growing that super strong pipe tobacco?

I've heard good stuff about JRs alternatives, like a good smoke for the price. The Ultimates seem like they'd be a step up from those. Did you get other JRs in that sampler?

Whats the best place to buy around here anyways? I live on the Windward side and it seems Timuras has the most nonstandard selection that I just happened to see.

Tobaccos Of Hawaii on Atkinson has the best selection with the least attitude. They actually train the guys to know what they are talking about, and some of them are really into it.

Good sticks for the money I've tried recently:

Nica Rustica
Ambos Mundos
Jaime Garcia
Diesel
Asylum Ogre
Rocky b52

The two favs ever were Cohiba Maduro and a Montecristo Tubo (can't remember which one), but they aren't available in this country until we lift the stupid embargo. Also the OpusX I got as a gift was pretty awesome but there's no way I'm paying that much.

I've used cigar.com (with cigar sprint sale), JRs, CI (and Cigar Bid), Atlantic Cigar, Pipes and Cigars, Famous (and Cigar Monster), and Holts. They're all good places with occasionally better deal than others. I think my favorite for non CI/Cigar.com exclusives is Atlantic.
