Voted concealed carry.   Too much tourists who come from unfree gunless societies and libs in Hawaii that would freak out with open carry.

These are precisely the people that need to see responsible armed citizens carrying. The local libs will be forced to admit their stance is wrong, and those tourists from other countries that don't have freedom........Who gives rats ass what they think? They don't make policy in the United States of America, they should mind their own business.
It's not our fault their country sucks.

I believe there should be an option for both.
But, I choose Concealed for this poll.

With the exception of actively hunting game, I would personally never open carry (OC). There are just too many disadvantages and it's too much of a liability with police contact, freaked out citizens, and the fact that anyone observing you could try and take your firearm.

Think open carry is a "better" option in the more notorious areas of the island? Doubt it!
If career criminals  aren't scared when law enforcement points guns at them, what makes you think that Glock riding in a cheesy, Uncle Mikes nylon OWB holster, on your size 42" waist is going to deter them?
You're about to get "rused" and robbed son.

Too all those "never let anyone close to me...I'm 100% condition yellow..." types  ::) .

If you do OC, I absolutely agree with those who have stated previously, some type of retention is needed. But definitely not a SERPA!

Here is a well written article from a "gun guy" and LEO, who shares the downsides of OC.

Man Legally Carrying Gun Robbed at Gunpoint

Last year an open carry advocate was robbed of his gun by a criminal who wasn’t deterred by the fact that he was carrying.  This isn’t the only case where something similar has happened.

The open carry advocates insist that crimes like this cannot happen. They are wrong. Open carry likely does deter some criminal activity, but not every criminal will be scared of your big gun.

Having spent a significant part of my life dealing with criminals, I will tell you that they can read body language very well. They know who will use the gun and who won’t. Most have had guns pointed at them their entire lives. Many have already been shot multiple times. It isn’t their first rodeo…and they aren’t scared of you just because that gun on your hip makes you feel like a bad ass.

If I were going to commit a crime, open carry wouldn’t deter me in the least. I’d just take the open carrier out first. Trust me, there are criminals who think the same way I do.   Did you see what happened earlier this week in Washington D.C.?  A killer armed with a shotgun killed at least one security guard in the Naval Yard in order to take his (open carried) handgun.

What you don’t understand is that some criminals see that open gun on your hip as a challenge, not as a threat. It’s a badge of honor for them to bring a gun home to their hood rat buddies and tell them about how you shit your pants when you felt the knife cutting your throat.

Every year dozens of cops (who have training, backup, and retention holsters) get their guns taken by criminals. But you don’t think a criminal can take the Glock out of your shitty open carry Fobus holster? A wake up call is in order….

As of current HRS 134-9 unconcealed carry and concealed carry both require a permit. No requied minimun  training is stated to apply.
The basic pistol course should be sufficient to meet 134-9(c) below.

HRS134-9
(1)  Be qualified to use the firearm in a safe manner

Pretty good argument for concealed carry.
Open carry makes me feel like a return to the wild, wild west. ( That's how it felt in AZ. It was pretty cool though. )

We should still have the right to do both.  it's in the 2A !

Concealed. The libs here would have a meltdown with open carry.  Need to compromise.

Jeff Cooper's 7th Principle of Personal Defense is Surprise. Definitely concealed unless you are wearing a LEO uniform.
I think, therefore I am armed.
