I use only Makita, and I give it a slight edge over Dewalt. I like the compact 18 volt lithium drill and impact driver for home use, although they can withstand heavier duty. All of mine are 18 volts lithium. Cordless sawzalls, full size drills, hammer drills, and grinders are very tough also. Drill doctors are ok if you got the time, but I usually toss the bits when they go bad. Go with the best that you can afford.
Probably the best advice here, "go with the best you can afford" you'll never go wrong buying high quality tools.
That being said, I've used Dewalt for over 15 years, until very recently. I was convinced when one of my employees dropped a cordless drill from about 15' onto concrete while hanging an A/C evaporator. We picked it up and it still worked perfectly, for the next 5 years until I purchased the newer model. I've recently bought a couple of Makita's on sale, the 18v lithium impact driver, it works great, charges fast and I have no complaints, but I don't think it would survive the drop test the Dewalt did. They just don't seem as robust.
[ Edit]
For the sawzall, go with the original, corded Milwaukee, it'll last a lifetime for home use, I haven't found a cordless yet that will stand up to repeated abuse.
Angle grinder, meh, Dewalt or Makita, again the corded version, won't quit on you in the middle of a cut. I had a Craftsman that last 10 years and my tools work for a living.
