What type of diving you plan on doing? Shallow type where you do like spear fishing or deep diving with scuba gear?
Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

Free dive/snorkel mostly, maybe 30-60' scuba later.

Gather having at least one soul on the boat while divers are down is mandatory, so if just the wife and me, just free dive around the boat.

When on dive boats, the cruise along the coast to the dive spots and bobbing around  the mooring during surface intervals was often as memorable as the dives.

Not really into fishing, but you never know.  All that Ono down there.................

Would go out on my neighbor's boat every couple of weeks to fish. That's about all the fuel we wanted to use for a month.  Learn ocean currents and weather patterns (very important). There's lots to learn and lots of responsibilities. Good luck with your decision.   :shaka:

As a member of the Coast Guard and since my main job is pollution response, my suggestion is to get a boat you can trailer. This way you can save some money with hull cleanings and slip fees. But there is the extra cost of truck, trailer and space to store it. If you get a boat, be prepared to spend THOUSANDS in upkeep and insurance, just in case. Do not cheap out on maintenance or I might be visiting you and sadly be required to fine you for polluting.

Hopefully this doesn't scare you. My dream is some day own a boat, but not one I would live in.
