There is mass bedlam and you have to go on the run. Away from your home.

And you have to choose.

A) Ruger 10/22 with 5000 rounds of .22lr.

B) Glock 17 with 500 rounds of 9mm

C) Remington 870 with 100 rounds of double ought.

There are no other options. No other weapons.

Which would you choose to protect yourself and why?

Glock 17 no question.  Will ABOSOLUTELY run dirty, 9mm is so common that you will come across more eventually.  9mm is lethal enough.

.22, 9mm and 12ga 00buck. They can't defeat most armor.. .22 has greater accuracy,  greater range, and has put more meat on the table than any other round. A good.22 rifle and 5000 rounds beats any other platform at 1/10th the ammo.

Glock 17 with high cap magazines.  Easier to conceal without alerting someone that your armed.    I would make use of the g17 to secure more weapons..

I agree.  .22lr would have the most all around utility.

Are we talking about a Red Dawn scenario? If so, I'd take the Glock and pick up the first rifle I found.

If just talking about the need for utility, a .22 would do nicely. 5000 rounds would be pretty heavy though.

I'd take the glock.  In hawaii, most likely you gonna be running into a terrorist at probably pretty close range.  (well i would since i'm always in a urban environment).  Not to mention i dont want to be running around with a rifle or shotgun and some fool ends up shooting me cause they think i'm a terrorist.

A brick (500 rounds) is about 3-4lbs, so 5000 would be 30-40lbs.

Ahhh...Red Dawn, a classic. If that were the case, I'd probably choose a shotgun then take the AK off the first guy I make dead.

But terrorists/insurgents don't attack en masse, so a 10/22 with loads of ammo would probably serve one better. Sure it's a "baby" sized bullet, but don't discount the ability to lay down suppressive fire (something you can't do if limited on ammo). Even if you miss (A LOT), you'll get keep their heads down and live to fight another day.

***As a plus, you can make an expedient suppressor with parts you find in you kitchen. Silent and deadly.

I would take the 10/22.

5000 rounds of ammo compared to only 500 of the 9mm is what makes the decision for me.

I would take the 22, hands down. You can put a whole lot of discouragement with a 10/22, provided the ammo was there and you had mags available.... although i'd be pressed to stick that glock in my waistband after picking up the 22, lol. I know, your scenario was different....

Glock just to blend in the crowd, because standing out with a firearm creates attention+ conflict= less chance of survival.

10/22.  Ammo capacity, quantity, flexibility.

Now y'all know I'm a 10/22 man, yet in this scenario, I would definitely take the glock.

500 rounds of 9mm is plenty to see through a limited upset such as this scenario, a small pistol is easily concealed when traveling or moving through cities, and 9mm is extremely effective for self defense.

Well, since the only one of the guns I own is a Remington 870, and apparently the rest of my collection has evaporated into thin air...

The 22 makes a lot of sense but I have to agree that you wont be able to walk around with it.
I'd probably choose the 9mm
or......
If I had quick access to a hacksaw, I might pick the shotty

Haha me too
Although if the other two magically appeared, I'd go with the 22. Much more versatile and well 5000>500>100. Gun with no bullets=beatdown stick.
