Mainland Availability of Powder and Primers

Just came back from a weeklong visit with my brother in Orange County, CA. I travelled around to 4 different gun stores. Three were very large stores while one was small and specialized in cowboy action shooting. The three large stores were VERY different in what they had available for sale. One, had so many shotguns it would make your head spin. I would estimate at least 200. They had a fair number of rifles but a lot of duplicates so not a big selection. That store had a few common rifle powders and some rifle magnum powders available. Limited to one pound per person per day. They had no pistol powder whatsoever. And they had only a small amount of primers. The second store had almost as many consignment pistols for sale as they did new pistols. They didn't have many rifles. Their shelves were full of ammo compared to the other stores which had very little. No powder/primers whatsoever. The third store had so many empty shelves I thought they were going out of business. They had a couple of Glocks and a couple of Rugers and thats about it. They had a poor selection of rifles. They had some ammo and a small amount of primers. They had no pistol powder and only had a couple of pounds of magnum rifle powder. All powder is limited to one pound per person per day. The cowboy action store had two tins of percussion caps only and both were sold while I was there. But they were flush with black powder and they had no limits as to how much one could buy.

I asked the three large stores how their powder supplies have been. And they all said it is hard to come by. Some powders they can't get at all and have not seen for more than a year.

I checked the two online stores that I know ships to Hawaii and they are basically all out of stock.
Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

It's a "damned if you do...damned if you don't " situation.  Pistol powders are in short supply, those who shoot a lot have been stocking up to compensate for the shortage, creating even more of a shortage.  I've recently read of shooters "scoring" and subsequently storing 16 to 32 POUNDS of N320 so they'll have a reserve.  Times are definitely tough, I've cut back drastically on range trips to conserve powder.
