What are some things we can't have but other states have
« on: June 14, 2011, 11:43:36 AM »
With the pictures of a sound suppressor in the gun pictures thread, that got me thinking: What else are the people of Hawaii not allowed that people in other states are allowed to have?

Is there anything that we can have that other states can't?

If you had it your way, what one item would you like that you aren't allowed to have now?

Should add a pole for this one... Off the top of my head:

SBR/SBS
High Cap Mags
Silencers
Full Auto
Destructive Devices

To my knowledge, we don't have anything other states can't aquire.

Now if I could only have one of the above listed items, I'd probably go SBR/SBS. I'd love to cut my Remmy 870 down to under 18.5". Or get a Noveske Leonidas, Mmm Mmm  :P,  SBR .308 goodness....

The only thing i could think of to add to this is "Assault Pistols" (Like AR Pistols).

Although i have no interest in assault pistols, i very much would like SBR's and suppressors.  I would even say that it would make me forget the ridiculous law on our pistol magazine cap if they allowed those two things.  I don't see why hawaii doesn't create a state law that would just allow sbr's with a non-folding stock of at least _____ inces long  (Maybe standard ar15 length) and a barrel of no less than 12.5 inches.  There's no way someone's going to be able to "conceal" that if that's what the state is worried about.

Suppressors i can see why they're concerned though.  There would be so many retarded punks shooting their guns within city limits, however i personally REALLY want a suppressor because if i ever had to use it defensively, i don't want to take out the bad guy while also blowing my ear drums out of my head in my tiny condo with no carpet in the living room and hallways.

SBRs.

We should be able to, but we can't.

I doubt punks would be lighting of suppressed weapons. They really are not that quiet and supressor set ups are anything but cheap.

they are still loud yes, but not nearly as loud as without....and when i say punks, i don't just mean younger guys.  There are a lot of older guys who are still punks that make enough money to buy stuff like that and then would probably go fire them off at some park or some other somewhat secluded place but still within city limits just cause "it's cool"

I disagree about the suppressor prices.  You are only talking a couple of hundred dollars.

Source? Are you included the NFA tax stamp that is required. A couple is 2.

I refuse to call them 'High Capacity' magazines, they are normal capacity. We are confined to limited capacity magazines!

One thing we can't have is the ability to purchase a firearm without having to get a permission slip.

Yeah I'm also very adamant about calling them standar capacity magazines. Manufacturers have to create limited capacity magazines just for speshul states like us.

While the SBRs are cool and useful in a home or urban environment (like the SBR'd Draco above), the thing I'd most want is a suppressor. Just to be less noisy at the range. Something in .30 caliber to mount to most rifles.

There are quite a few budget suppressors on the market that run a couple hundred for the suppressor and another $200 for the tax stamp. All of those seem to be for .22lr only. It looks like the ones for rifle cost $500+ and in the larger cailbers (.30) even more.

Honestly guys, back home Hawaii is considered a communist state in terms of firearm law.

Things I am looking forward to when  I head home next week:

CCW/OC
no registration of firearms
no waiting period
ALL NFA ITEMS (SBS SBR suppressors, DD, AOW, etc)
"assault weapons" being called what they are: Semi auto rifles

This winter I am picking up a .30 cal suppressor for my hunting rifle, but it will also be hosted on my ar and .308.  Later will be a .22 can.

.22 and subsonic center fire rounds are nearly hollywood quiet depending on what you are shooting.  My big project will be a 300 blackout suppressed SBR. 10.5" with a carbine gas system.  16" with suppressor (approx)

Going out on the flats and blowing up empty fuel drums with a 20mm anti tank rifle from an airboat

Hopefully being the pintle gunner on a live sherman tank in the 4th of july parade (if i can get a hold of the owner) then taking it to the range and playing with the main gun  >:D

What I miss the most though... being able to see sane ammo prices, and being able to point at whatever firearm I want, and walk out with it 5 minutes later.

According to the law back home, I can technically build anything, including NFA items in my garage and not register them with the feds, so long as it is made in, stamped as such, and stays in alaska.  Mind you, I'm not insane enough to actually try to follow that law.  I dont have enough money to defend myself against the pissed off .gov, and I like not being butt raped in prison.

Oh yeah, speaking of suppressors, there are several companies that pay the $200 tax stamp for you.  So, you still come out $4-600 on a centerfire suppressor.

After 10 years, I couldnt justify that question with an answer either.  After I catch up on suppressors and sbr stamps, expect to see at least one rifle/upper with a M203...:D

I live here because I was born and raised here.

My family was born and raised here, my children call Hawaii home as I do and my father and grandfather and great grand father etc... did.

I love shooting and hunting and support gun rights and the second amendment as much as anybody and more than most and the fact that the anti constitution politicians (most of whom aren't even originally from Hawasii) dont allow me to own a silencer or a standard capacity pistol magazine isnt going to make me move from my home.

I agree, you shouldn't have too. Maybe some day the folks out here will get pissed off enough and organized enough to do something about it, similar to other states. Until then the oppression shall continue.
