Seriously, you make me envious of your rat problem.  I'm sure you'd rather the rats were gone, but I want you to know just how much vicarious entertainment you are providing to the community with this continuing narrative!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Almost midnight.  Although I saw probably 6-8 rats tonight I was only able to shoot two of them before they disappeared into heavy ground cover.  Both went into the water so no pics  :-[

Think I'm going to mod the trigger on the fusion.  It is kinda sticky and rough. I found a DIY online.

There are tons of mods you can do to it but most of them are currently beyond my ability.

had my first miss tonight =(.  Da bugger was only about 1 yard from the end of my barrel too!  Why did I miss? My scope is zeroed at about 7 yards.   Center of scope is about 2" above the barrel. I took that into account but I still hit low. =(   Clean barrel with a shotgun type bead at the end would have been better for that close.

I would be cool with you coming over to pop a few rats and maybe a beer or two.  I'm in Moilili - University and Kapiolani. It would need to be soon though as my wife gets back on the 18th and I know she's not going to approve of me shooting the rats.
I'd love hear the braked discovery since i considered that option. A combination of time to get the brake and not knowing how it actually sounds like held me back.

I have to let you know though,  the rat population is down a whole lot from what it used to be.  Sometimes I'll go out and look for 10 to 15 minutes and not see one.  Used to be I could see a dozen in 5 minutes.

I was considering getting the TKO brake for my fusion but tko said i would have to send my rifle to them for installation since it wasn't made specifically for the fusion.  Lots of extra cost involved and being without the rifle during this time while my wife is on the trip has held me back.

I was actually planning on returning the rifle the day before my wife got back but something happened that made me decide to keep it - although my wife will whine (possibly badly).  I got hooked up with a gunsmith on the mainland who he said he will make me one for cost of materials and shipping.  It's going to be awhile to get it since he is working on it in his spare time but he has started already.  I've seen pictures of his work -  it is professional.  I can't send the gun back after someone does something like that for me.

Was just watching a rat peeking out of a puka not ten feet from my "office" window this morning.  Such an easy shot, but with a screen in the way..............

Think the wife would object to installing shooting ports?  It is for a good purpose after all.

Satisfied myself by putting a trap out there, but with my luck, bait will be gone and trap unsprung.  Such an easy shot.................

Robbie check out the poster pic for the movie Willard. Is that the rat's facial expression before you pull the trigger? Lol
Grew up watching movie Willard, boy's pet rat turned Godfather of vermin.
Guess you're doing circle of life and palu fo crabs and talapia. Lol
Grandma raised me in Kamuki / Kapahulu, Crane park & Kaimuki river, favorite hunting grounds with slingshot and a pack of BBs in the 60s. Just like Dennis the menace, was fine back in the good ole days.
Keep up the good work. Favorite read, just play it cool, know all about Wahine drama shooting vermin. Who knows your wife might get into it later.
My daughter was watching Bambi said Daddy I know you are the bad man who killed Bambi's mom. Said no honey Daddy shoots bucks. Too young to know "bucks" just figured it out seeing bone yard & heads.
Finally got wife & Mom to like pigs didn't think Mom would start to feed um. All the old folks in the neighborhood do, guess taught not to waste food & fun to watch.
Sorry to ramble, but my young daughter insisted to shoot the boar when she saw boar bitting baby piglets. Shooting pops Dennis has that skull but that's another story. Boar fed lots of happy Boy Scouts. Really enjoy your updates & pics.
Aloha!

Barret - I highly doubt she'll "get into it" but maybe in best case scenario she'll accept me doing it lol.    I know about times a changing - I had a bb rifle in 3rd grade and by the time I was in 6th grade I had a .22 rifle and a 410 shotgun.  I'd go hunting in the woods around our house.   This was east texas so our closest neighbor was about 3/4 mile away.  Think Waimanalo with pine forest but about the size of the big island.

Tonight I spent some time tuning my rifle a bit.  I hated the feel of the trigger so I sent about 2-3 hours sanding and polishing various contact points in there.  Also adjusted the trigger pull.  Trigger is smoooth now.  Played a bit with power adjustment but I have no chrono so was kinda playing blind. Eventually settled at a lower power level than I started for noise reduction.  It was the first time I took any of it apart so I'm pretty happy with myself for doing it and very happy with the trigger improvement.

When I finally went out I saw one but it was gone by the time I got the scope focused.

It's bed time now.

Airguns, in my wretched experience are touchy bastards when the power level creeps up.  Anything you can do to maximize the consistency of the condition of the piece when the shot goes pays off greatly.  Mechanics and hold included of course.

I spent far too much time getting my Trail Nitro NP to shoot decently.  I had very high expectations based on an old Sig Hammerli spring gun that was magic and crazy accurate.  Only belatedly did I find out about Chinese stuff that most airguns are these days.  My RWS 48 and Disco came after my initiation into the modern state of things.

This recent journey into airgun tuning, has at least kept me away from other sinful hobbies, as i told the wife.

Now if I can get that damn mongoose to hold still for a few seconds.

My Disco with TKO and Weaver 3-9x 50mm scope.

Nice, I'm very interested in hearing it tomorrow. I like the case too. simple and effective.  If I get to keep the rifle I will be looking for a case.

I can't wait for my hush stick to arrive.

********************

Not only are the rats scarcer now but they are getting smarter or at least more skittish..  Tonight I've seen 5 total in 3 instances under the house.  They were all on the mound of dirt they built as they dug out a nest under the foundation of our patio.  They used to freeze when they got hit with the super bright spot light. However tonight in first instance the single rat ran under the foundation almost immediately.  2nd time there were 3 big ones on the mound - they all ran away out the far side of the house and through the fence into the neighbors yard.  Third instance a single one ran same zig zag path to neighbors yard. It's hard to get off a quick shot because I have to tilt the rifle sideways to fit through the slats that go around the house.  Kneeling down and tilting your head at an awkward angle causes difficulty in seeing through the scope.Once I can finally see through it I usually need to adjust focus.  I'm thinking maybe I need to put a light under there that is on all night - then they could hang out and I could shoot them from a distance without alerting them with a flashlight.

I've checked a few times tonight but haven't seen any in the stream.  Can hear them squeaking further up/down the stream though.  My light will reach pretty far but there is too much growth to see them.  Even if I did, my scope isn't centered anywhere near 20+ yards either.

Edit 12:23am - I just heard a couple of them fighting close outside my window.

You ought to score someone's old scuba tank off Craiglist and get an adapter.
As long as the tank has a current hydro inspection so a shop will fill it, you are good for many fills with zero effort.

I noticed the pump too.  That is one of the reasons I didn't spend a little more and get a pcp - it wouldn't have been a little more.  it would have been a lot more after all the accessories I would be getting.  Reviews on the pump say if you only weigh 150bs you are going to have a tough time getting to 3000 psi.  So I'd be getting a scuba tank too etc too. Even if I did tough it out with a pump, the pump costs more than my current rifle.

I got the pump + rifle for $360 shipped from Amazon several months ago. The TKO brake was about $50 shipped.
Here's a tempting deal on craigslist http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/tag/4713389616.html
I like it as I mentioned before it's accuracy is amazing. I'd put it against my Compass Lake Engineering 22 upper.
The sound with the TKO sounds like this

not as loud and sharp when I first shot it without - but more subdued, rubbery sound

Landlord caught me with the rifle last night.  I didn't know how he'd react.

He said, "is that a bb gun?" sounding a bit surprised ..

Me thinking uh oh..
"That is SO cool!  Did you shoot any rats yet?"

Then we get talking about air guns and he stay with me on the hunt.  I shoot at one across the yard that was walking. Thought I missed - it ran away.  However, about 10 minutes ago landlord texts me a picture of its body that he found today.
After awhile time to go bed. He went in his house, I decided to have one more look in the stream.  There were two on a tree branch.  Got one of them.  By the time I reloaded the other was gone.

I am meeting the guy with the complete .25 marauder setup after work.  rifle, scuba tank (inc. card for 7 more refills), hose, fittings, regulator, case, good scope, cleaning gear, lots of pellets, bi-pod thingy.  He bought it all one month ago but has to move and can't take it with him.  Says he has receipts.    Everything for $450.  I can't pass it up.

My LDC for the fusion should arrive on Saturday .  I might have to get the guy to make one for the Marauder too.

That was an incredible deal on that Marauder. I'm a little jealous.
