Wow
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Terrible for the family - in their home no less.

This is crazy. A police officer, no less.

I always triple check any of my handguns before cleaning or taking them out the safe for the range.

As sad as this is, and I do feel terrible for the family, this further illustrates the importance of gun safety. To imply that police officers are somehow better equipped to handle firearms on a daily basis over regular citizens is silly. People are people and they all make mistakes.

This happened at his house during a Barbeque.  Good chance some were drinking adult beverages.

No idea if this man was drinking, but it's a valid question considering the unfortunate events.

Sad, especially since this was preventable.

The reality is a lot of police officers are NOT avid shooters, I know plenty who only shoot for annual qualification, and not as religious about safe gun handling as someone that is shooting guns weekly. (Average gun enthusiast)

I don't know if your responding to my post about him being a police officer or not, but a there is a difference between a police officer versus and a regular citizen. Virtually every officer is required to attend classes and range time. Not every citizen has a gun, much less fired one in their entire lives. Does that make them infallible? No, but it's something compared to nothing for most people.

Now, if you're talking about a gun owing citizen versus an officer, then you have a point.

My point is that not allowing citizens to CCW  under an assumption that they are more dangerous than "trained professionals" is a mistake.
