article says "semi auto"
but if its M16, thats full auto, right?
but its the media, so who knows.

anyways at the end of the article it says,
"Kushner said records keeping between 2007 and 2013 was "so muddled and virtually nonexistent" it's been impossible to determine who used the guns and how they were lost."

that's great documentation skills by a PD.   :(

Prolly not FA they are more than likely select fire semi auto and three round burst.

Even if it is the one with the burst mode, it's still considered a unicorn for us here in Hawaii.

On the plus side they are missing "semi-automatic rifles", not "evil black assault machine guns of death". Granted it's fox news.. still!

I saw a marked M16-A1 receiver a few years ago being sold in a gun store in Vegas. but it was welded up and refinished to semi auto specs.
the tag said arsenal refinished.

Prolly not FA they are more than likely select fire semi auto and three round burst.

Having a burst function is still considered selective fire. Since you can select a firing mode other than semi-auto.

Most m16s are FA except the m16a4 which has 3 round burst. The Military doesnt like soldiers having the fun switch capability cause its a good way to burn through ammo.

A rifle labeled M16 would be illegal because the ATF classifies them as machine guns, unless they were registered prior to 1986.

Label doesn't matter. I could have "M16" engraved on my upper and the ATF wouldn't care. You can easily buy "Full Auto" BCGs, and I believe virtually all uppers now sold are "full auto" - this simplifies production for companies -  the lower and fire control group are the pain points as far as NFA/BATFE goes.

Most M16s are burst, not full auto; The M16A1 is no longer in US service and the M16A3 is only produced in small quantities for the Navy (primarily).

You're probably thinking of the M4A1 (and variants) which is full auto.

I meant to say the lower, since it's the only part of a rifle that is serialized and registered. Unless of course you have a FA trigger group that was registered and grandfathered in.

had a brain fart on that. My issued m16a2 had a 3rd burst.
