Installing choke tubes on shotgun.
« on: September 25, 2014, 11:02:04 AM »
I'm looking to have my Mossberg 590 adapted to accept choke tube. Does anyone know if there is anyone on island that does this kind of work? I figured I can ask around at the gun show next week, but I'd like to know what options I have on island before I start looking to the mainland.

you might consider getting an extra barrel instead, it may be cheaper than trying to thread your existing barrel to accept chokes if it doesn't come that way, also you might want to check the thickness of the barrel you have, you may not be physically able to have chokes put on it if its too thin

It's hard to internal thread some barrels.  The walls are generally thin.  I can do some as long as the wall thickness is there.

590 barrels are extreamly hard to find, even from the factory.

what is barrel length and why do you want to put chokes on it?

I called the factory, and they have one 590 barrel threaded for chokes for $180. But I've been doing a little digging and it seems that the Mossberg style of choke doesn't seem to be as popular in the aftermarket.

Pretty much I just want to maximize the versatility of my gun. I also like to shoot clays with it, and while I can hold my own, I would like the option of throwing on something tighter. I like the idea of a shorter barrel with the option for chokes. Remington does it, and I wish Mossberg did too.

If it becomes too much of a hassle though, I'll just break down and buy a Remington. I've seen a few models pretty much set up much closer to the way I want my gun to be.
