Poll from a U-T San Diego newspaper article about the Peruta case and a bit about Ed Peruta himself.

Is self-defense a good enough reason to be issued a concealed weapons permit?.

Currently (with 4812 total votes): 88% Yes

Note Gore's comments on how long it will take to issue CCW licenses to the current (mere) 1600 applicants (San Diego is the fifth most populous county in the entire United States, with the 2010 census population at 3,095,313. Thus the 1600 permit applications represents 0.05% of the population. Extrapolating the numbers to even the 40th ranking state in concealed carry permit percentage OF 0.96% (19.2 TIMES the rate of San Diego applicants) that would mean 19 to 38 YEARS to get your permit if you are at the end of likely minimal length list and they don't seek and find the funds to hire more staff to process the applications. I think that'd merit another lawsuit... of course that litigation might take that long to get resolved anyway Peruta was filed in 2008).):

Even under the new, less restrictive guidelines, applicants would have to pass a background check, be of “good moral character,” not be a felon, complete a firearms training course and pass a shooting test. The process usually takes a few months, Gore said.

With the department’s current resources, Gore said it could take a one to two years to get through the backlog.

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

What a dumb-ass question! The right to self-defense is presented as a rhetorical question now - not as right to a US law-abiding citizen. The tone the article had was that CCW was a mere fashion statement and the right of an individual from defending himself/herself from someone TRYING TO KILL you is just an option.

If that's the case, then the department should quit whining like an elementary school kid with all this homework/procrastinating and start ASAP.  The sooner one is done, the sooner one gets to go outside and play.

"Is self-defense a good enough reason to issue a concealed weapons permit?"

They ought to ask, "Should anyone be required to furnish a reason to be issued a concealed weapons permit?"

Submitting an application, satisfying a firearm qualification test and passing a reasonable background check should be all that is needed.

The right to self-defense shouldn't even be questioned. I refuse to believe that any sane, morally upstanding person believes that they shouldn't defend themselves. Or more specifically, entrust their lives solely to another person.

Who told you progressives are "sane, morally upstanding" people?
Always be yourself.
Unless you can be a pirate.
Then always be a pirate.

Who told you progressives are "sane, morally upstanding" people?
No one, I had to learn the hard way. I'm just stating the obvious, though I do wish that progressives were more "reasonable."

No, no, it is not for them to be reasonable, YOU are the one that must be reasonable and give them what they want.

They believe they are smarter and always correct, so if you do not agree with them, you are the unreasonable one.

Just ask one of them?

If only we had a 2A member here who could speak for all those "moderate, rational" gun control advocates, then maybe we could see a way to compromise even more of our Second Amendment rights away.  That would put the gun control supporters' minds to rest, and they would stop asking for assault weapons bans and taxes on ammunition.

After all, these moderate gun control advocates aren't trying to take away our guns,  They just want common sense solutions that can reduce the number of military style weapons that wind up on our streets and limit the number of rounds one can load in a pistol -- because we know from movies the bad guy always gets taken out by law enforcement during a reload.

Too bad we don't have a representative on here to argue on their behalf ...

(Yeah, that was painful to type.  Surprised I made it to here without gagging!!)

Glad you have tongue firmly jammed in cheek.  From reading a few threads, it appears there are at least two cops that post here that are not very thrilled at the firearms that we peasants are allowed to own, and keep asking just what restrictions should be allowed.

They, and the Obola voters here would be the likely suspects to put forth the case for the leftist "reasonable" case.

I, on the other hand, am totally unreasonable, (just ask my wife) so would stay out of any such thread to avoid incrimination.
