S&W Model 60 thoughts.....
« on: December 19, 2014, 05:59:43 PM »
Im considering picking up a Model 60 .357  Does anyone on here have any experience with them???  Revolver background: I have a 2" 642, that I absolutely love, and Im looking to expand my wheel gun collection/arsenal.  Im not looking for a medium or large frame revolver just yet, eventually if I find one and the price is right I will consider a 686 or gp 100.

Had one a long time ago. I liked it but not when I fired full power rounds. The recoil was a little too much for me. I ended up shooting 38 and 38+P in it mostly. Same applies to the Ruger SP101. Had one and got rid of it for the same reason. I went with the 686 and now the 627. I prefer the larger frames for shooting full power loads.

Other than that it was a nice piece.

We have the pre 1996 model.
.38 Spl only, fixed sights.
We like it alot.
Suprisingly little recoil has made it become one of the missus's favorites.

With a barrel less than 2"  and it's fixed sights, this was / is a preferred HD / back up piece.

With it's dependable operation with a significant round at close distances, hitting 4" - 6"  from 50 ft from the hip suits our needs.
At home it packs Hornandy  +p 110 g HP's

Have a current production model with a 3 in barrel and adjustable sights.   Like it a lot and shoot it better than the sw 19 2.5 in barrel I used to own.
However, I sent the gun back to SW after transfer from my FFL.   The gap between the cylinder crane and frame was large.  Fit was loose.   I got
the gun back a just a little tighter.  Play is less but still there.   I can live with it.    In picture, the gun on the left is a current production 66-8.  Gun is
tight.    You might want to check this out before buying.

thanks for taking the time to respond.  Your experiences and input are greatly appreciated.  Overall, it seems like it is generally liked by just about everyone on all kinds of different forums.  I was not aware, or even gave much thought to examining the gaps between the cylinder crane and frame.  That will definitely be something I look for on every revolver I purchase from here on out.  And as far as loads are considered,  the vast majority of ammo that goes through it would be .38 specials.  Seeing how we cannot carry legally in this state, this gun would be more of a range gun, then my go to gun for home defense.  I have other handguns & shotguns I would reach for in a defensive situation first,
