well we all gather in a circle and macsak tells us about all his war stories... lol

Just kidding essentially we try to learn about firearm safe handling and mental conditioning from experiencing our equipment to see what works and what doesn't when performing basic drills to enhance our accuracy and fundamental techniques in firearms manipulation in a welcoming and open learning environment.

It's a great place to really learn and experience your stuff in a more practical environment with great folks who are willing to help and guide you. I've become much more proficient with my firearms thanks to the folks at the HDF and these range days. The environment is also very welcoming. Wish I could make it tomorrow but I got a contractor coming in to do some work. Have fun guys. Hopefully I can make it next month. Got a new trigger in my AR that I need to try out.

Noob question.  What do you guys do on range day?

read through the posts in this subforum for specifics
especially this thread
https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=3877.440
read it from the end, because the current organizers have only been in place since sept/oct 2013 and that thread is years long

basically, an hdf range day is an opportunity to have a safe and fun day while learning basic firearms handling techniques and skills
it is a chance to do something at the range other than loading 5 rounds in your mag and slow firing at a fixed target from a bench or firing line
hdf range days have one block of time called open/free shoot
you can fire any type of firearm legal in hawaii, we do enforce a 10 round mag limit, but you can fire faster as long as you are under control
people bring shotguns, rifles, and pistols
there is another block of time dedicated to a "class"
i put "class" in parentheses because it is not a $250-750 tactical shooting session
we practice different skills and techniques to introduce attendees to things that are not able to be practiced on the static side of the range
we alternate between pistol, rifle, shotgun, and intermediate classes
signups for the "class" take place on the second saturday of the month in this subforum
hdf range days are the last saturday of every month

if you're available, tomorrow, you can come check it out
open shoot is $10 and lasts from 8-10
then you can observe the class and see what you think

please do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions

[Drunken riposte]
First, there's the circle jerk.  New guy gets to be the pivot man.  The dusty conditions require extra lube; Ballistol is available.
Next, leadership examines us to make sure that everyone has, in fact, shot our load.
Meat is swapped.
Barrels are measured.
Protestations of affections are proclaimed.
Walnut and old iron kicks the ass of plastic EBRs.
