Home for the 4th. Bottle of Powers at hand. Anyone else tying one on?

Count me in on this.  Six pack of bud light platinum.  Wife and kids are out but I am still lingering.  :shaka:
It is what it is.

This time, it is really, genuinely, truly not my fault!  I was heading to bed when my boo came home.  She wanted a drink, so of course I stay up to drink with her.  After all, it's rude to let a lady drink alone.  I make a round of martinis (1 shot olive, 4 shots gin).  I sip mine as we watch Columbo.  Yes, we watch Columbo.  Get over it.  About 15 minutes into the episode, she says "Sorry, I have to go to bed now."  I tuck her in, come back to the couch and discover she hasn't touched her martini!  I can't let it go to waste, right?  Right??

Johnny Walker Double Black.

Quote
Taking cues from the unparalleled flavors of Johnnie Walker Black Label, Master Blender Jim Beveridge struck out to craft a blend that would take the intensity of Black to unexplored territory.  He started on Scotland's vast shores, rediscovering the powerful west coast and subtle east coast scotches integral to today's world-renowned Black Label.  After hand-selecting a number of whiskies defined by hints of smoldering charcoal, crisp ash and burnt timber, we barreled our blend to mature in deep-charred old oak casks. The result is an unquestionably smokier, more intense experience, but with deep, dark roots in a rich blend that changed the world: Johnnie Walker Black Label. Simply put, it is Black, amplified.

Blended to break the rules, Double Black boasts an edgy confidence in flavor that separates it from its balanced relative, Johnnie Walker Black Label. It is not simply a darker version of Black Label, for it cannot be defined by color alone. Nevertheless, the two blends are intrinsically linked. As any discriminating drinker can see, they share DNA - in their smoky nose, unmistakable spice and slight tones of dried fruit.

But the similarities end there. With this blend, the exclusive taste trumps all. It's no wonder whisky critics and aficionados have snatched up the limited number of bottles produced, making it even more elusive and mysterious. But rest assured, the "mischievous brother" won't be gone for long - just remember that flavor of this intensity takes time and great care to craft.

While its finish will undoubtably linger, Double Black itself will not. Its stunningly small run is characteristic of a blend best suited to the most ambitious and adventurous Johnnie Walker enthusiasts, eager to explore another side of Black.

But our Double Black locator (above) will make sure you've secured a bottle of your own before this rare blend, like a billow of smoke, quietly fades away.

Johnny Walker Double Black.

I bought some from Costco.  Wanted to like it because I like Black, but it was too smokey...  To each his own though, bottoms up.

Have you tried Lagavulin?  It's not quite as smokey as DB but it is a nice Scotch.

I have friends who are scotch snobs.  Lagavulin is one of their Holy Grails.  I find it delightful, but not worthy of the price.  Hell, I'll drink Scorsby's!

Honestly, I prefer plain ol' black.  I won't buy this again.

Like being great at anything, it takes commitment!

I decided the bike would be better off in the hands of someone more experienced.  The tow truck will be coming in a couple of hours, actually.

Slightly off topic, but not really.  I was hoping to try and make an Old Fashioned, but can't seem to find Angostura Bitters in the market.  What section do they usually stock them?  Tried the mixers area, salad dressing area, cooking oil area, etc.  but no luck.  Should've asked when I was there, but was pressed for time.  Thanks in advance.

There's a fine line between "enough" and "too much!"

I know that "last drink" is the culprit, but I never know which drink is the last until after I already finished it!!

So, so often, the "last drink: is the round I made for myself and my boo. I finish mine, she leaves hers (at least most of it) for me.

A wise man once told me, when you go out drinking, KNOW YOUR LIMIT!

So, now I always check my credit card balance before leaving the house so I know how much I can drink!!

I go through cycles in most things, and my choice of alcohol is no exception.  Currently, I'm all about Irish whiskey.  I'm thinking about throwing an Irish Whiskey tasting.

I know this will sound more like a commercial than I want it to, but.....

Unfortunately, age and meds preclude me from drinking much any more. But because I no longer drink regularly, I can afford the best when I do drink. Life is too short to drink crappy (Insert your favorite alcohol type HERE). Stay drunk, huh I mean thirsty my friends.
