Just like alcohol and cash at a bar is not a good idea either.

Arrested, right.

More like booked and released "pending further investigation". 2 days after the incident.

Somehow I don't think that alcohol is going to play a major role in this, since it seems he wasn't given a sobriety test.

Does anyone here think they would be treated as gently under the same circumstances?

If I was a member of the investigating law enforcement agency and the head of the union was there advising me to decline any kind of sobriety test and to say nothing on the record without a lawyer present, yes.

Since I'm not, I suspect I would have been face down on the floor with a boot on my neck and then spent however long in a cell until the exorbitant bail could be raised. Why, are you implying that the law isn't applied in an equal and even-handed manner based upon a person's place of employment?

The hypocrisy is quite horrifying.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

City police departments need to go away and be replaced by sheriffs. The Sheriff works for the people, the chief of police works for the mayor.

Please explain as how the 2 are different.  I admit I'm a bit naïve when it comes to this sort of thing.  How does the city/county police departments do not work for the people?

The sheriff is elected. They chief of police is appointed by the mayor.

Not in Hawaii, don't think we even have a Sheriff, just Deputies.

As with recall, term limits, initiative and referendum, having an elected sheriff/chief law enforcement officer would actually allow for some kind (admittedly minimal, see: California's Peruta/Richards) accountability and possible consequences to citizens (via elections) for egregious or unconstitutional behavior and/or enforcement of illegal policies and practices, thus no such thing exists in Hawaii where one-party-rule/tyranny is the modus operandi.

Even worse, I think.  I believe the chief of Police is appointed by the Police Commission!

In Hawaii, the Sheriff is the state law enforcement agency under the Department of Public Safety.  That department is under the Executive Branch.

The Honolulu Police Department is a local law enforcement agency under the Office of the Mayor of the City and Country of Honolulu.

Even worse, when you have a labor union backing you, any remaining individual accountability goes down the toilet pretty fast!
