Just gonna put this out there

The American military will never turn against the people. I would rather kill my chain of command then opress the people. Seriously. And all my other buddies in the Corps are the same way. Out of the huge conversation we had about this not one person said theyd follow orders to harm or otherwise interfere with civilians. And I'm pretty darn sure IF there was some large scale operation against the people that 80+% of the military would desert and not follow whatever twisted leader is telling them to do.

Believe it or not, a lot of the folks in the military aren't mindless drones and wouldnt do crap when it comes to opressing the people. And the few who would harm the people, would very swiftly be taken care of by the rest of the military with their heads on straight.
I sure as hell don't need a permit to choose my religion, so why the hell do I need a permit to acquire a firearm?

I will agree with beekeeping. What I think is of greater concern is the militarization of the police and alphabet soup agencies. Most of the military people I know believe deeply in the Constitution. The police? Not so much. Even guys I count as friends have told me pointedly they feel they should be able to kick our rights to the curb, to "make our job easier". Further, I can come up with no logical reason why a federal agency like the DOE should have a swat team. Are they going to start breaking down doors to make sure homework is getting done? To be clear, I don't think that all police feel this way and I'm sure that those federal agencies are the same, but, it still seems to me they are using the bureaucracy to build a standing army answerable only to the executive branch. All under the guise of "protecting" us.

Some will feel I'm just being paranoid, but, after 50+ years I've developed a healthy respect for what the government is capable of and a great deal of skepticism as to the wisdom and motives of those in power.

Just for clarity...  The Department of Education does not operate a SWAT team.  I saw the story about the guy in California, and both the Washington Post and Politico retracted their original reporting that it was a SWAT team.

The Department of Energy, on the other hand, has a SWAT-type team.
