This whole thing sucks!

Sorry if someone mentioned this already, but why does the OP even need to lift a finger?  He never received it so UPS is still 100% on the hook for it.  UPS should be tracking it down to St John's, UPS should be contacting HPD and explaining, UPS should be dealing with the ATF to explain why they gave a firearm to someone other than the manufacturer or owner.  OP should really raise hell with UPS for time spent, take what you make at work and apply that to the hours spent doing what they should be doing on your behalf.  Then, if HPD doesn't give you back your firearm, you should be compensated for that as well.  Don't forget to get back all the shipping costs, gunsmith costs, your time, etc.  It looks like UPS is not taking this matter seriously.  They violated federal laws and they are just sitting back and letting the OP do all the work.  That is just F'd up.  Even after all this is settled, UPS should be investigated by the ATF actually.

That is just bad for everyone, because if UPS was properly investigated and punished for this huge mistake, UPS may elect to stop handling firearms then we will all be left with FEDEX (who may just follow suit) and then we will be stuck with FFL transfers through USPS.  Why couldn't UPS just do the right thing and read the name and address on the friggin box?

I think rusty got a point. Ups should be actively pursuing the matter.

I don't think this one incident, regardless of how much it costs UPS, will stop them from accepting firearms for delivery.  This probably represents a tiny percentage of all the guns they shipped and didn't deliver to the wrong address.

My opinion and what I would do is to notify your councilman and state reps of your problems.   It can't hurt to try unless they are anti- Bill of Rights types.   If no help there, see if some other district friendly Reps can help.   Notify Hawaii Reporter to investigate.  The louder your voice, more will listen.
Probably  UPS broke some type of Fed firearms laws on the delivery.

Why was this was never on the news?  I'm sure the public would like to know about UPS delivered a firearm to the wrong address.  Although rare, I'm sure this is not the first incident involving a firearm and wrong address as some packages do get delivered to the wrong address.

OK - sorry for the delay in the update

Long story short -

HPD me forced to wait two weeks to get my already registered firearm back  ??? says "its their policy" whenever releasing firearms from evidence.

Manager from UPS apologized for their mistake and issued a reimbursement for shipping. The manager genuinely seemed concerned with my situation and personally called me 5 or 6 times to check on the status of my firearm with HPD.

Will be joining the NRA/HRA
