Can military say they have no doctor on permit app?
« on: June 08, 2015, 01:44:13 PM »
After I get back to Oahu I plan on applying on a permit to acquire. Because apparently even though I acquired my scar already, in California, I have to re acquire it out here. I've heard I can have it shipped to my place and its no big deal, but the hpd firearms office gal said it had to be shipped to an ffl and re acquired so I'm gonna play it safe and go that route.

So, my question is this. I'm in the military and don't really have a doctor. I have medical I can go to but its just corpsman there. So do I just say no doctor on the application? Would hpd cry about that and deny the permit cause they can't talk to my doctor? And how do they access my mental health if I don't have a psychiatrist?

Long story short, just curious about a military member in specific getting a permit to acquire.

Thanks!!
I sure as hell don't need a permit to choose my religion, so why the hell do I need a permit to acquire a firearm?

I believe you must list the medical clinic you are assigned to.  They will contact them about your permit to acquire.

Heavies is right, just write the name of the clinic where you checked in when you pcs.

You can ship guns with your household goods or bring on the plane. Only thing is you gotta register them here.

You can ship long guns to yourself via USPS, Fedex, UPS, etc without an FFL as long as the rifles belong to you.  You must register the long guns at HPD within 5 days of arrival

Not familiar with out of state registration.  Does he have to apply for a long gun permit (and wait the 14 days to get it) or can he register the rifle without the permit?  I'd assume no permit is required as the 14 day waiting period would make him violate the 5 day registration requirement.

I'm military too. Just put down the clinic,  phone and address.  Out of state registrations do not need a permit to aquire. I can buy when I travel then register when I come home.

The real hassle will be purchasing a handgun.  You will need a notarized letter from your CO or a hunter safety card.

I think they will ask him to fill out the long gun permit and associated background check forms, fingerprint him, etc.  But there is no transfer happening, so no 2 week wait.  Just make sure to show up early enough they can run the database check on the out-of-state gun/s.  I think after 3PM is too late.

Once registered, he can take them home and return in 2 weeks to pick up the long gun permit to acquire.

Out of state registrants need to take firearm(s), in person, to the Main Police Station Firearms Section no later than 5 calendar days from arrival. Out of state registrants are encouraged to arrive at the Firearms Unit no later than 3:00 pm. The out of state registration process can be lengthy. If there is a line, we may not be able to accommodate you. There is no 14-day waiting period for Out-of-State Registration. You need the following when you register your firearm:

A $14.75 FBI fingerprinting fee. Cash only, exact change.
    Valid photo identification
    The firearm for inspection
If you were born outside the United States, bring proof of citizenship such as an Original US Passport, Original Naturalization Certificate, Original Born Abroad Certificate, or if you are in the military your Enlisted (ERB) or Officer (ORB) Record Brief will suffice only if the document states you are a United States Citizen.

Teichi is correct.  Just bring your rifle to HPD saying you are doing an out of state registration and you register and do the paperwork and take it home the same time you bring it in.  For medical put the clinic where your medical records are kept.
