Ban on Cars
« on: June 22, 2015, 06:58:32 PM »
local motor vehicle fatality count at 6 lives this week including:

the 3 guys in the pickup truck on Maui last night
the lady jogger in marked crosswalk kalanianiole hwy
the guy who hit a biker by Straub
and the motorcyclists driving the wrong way on H1 by kahala

how many more accidents?
how many more lives and families must be ripped apart?
how many people need to lose their lives too early?

before we.....

ban those damn cars once and for all!

seriously though, people need to drive carefully
i'm a driver
i don't take the responsibility lightly
i check and double check
im ready to stop at any time
i study the road as far down as I can see down it and everything in between
presence of mind at all times
ready all the times
"if you stay ready, you aint got to get ready"  a saying that i apply to every aspect of my life

driving is a privilege not a right, the privilege entails that the driver has the ability to yield or stop at any time

If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

There should be a two week waiting period each time you want to acquire a motor vehicle.  There should be thorough background checks on all persons wanting to acquire a motor vehicle.  All vehicles equipped with "high capacity" fuel tanks should be capped at 10 gals or less.  all "mufflers" or "silencers" need to be removed from all vehicles,  hitmen can sneak up on peeps and run them down silently!   Motor vehicles should not be stored concealed inside closed garages, they need to have a CVP (concealed vehicle permit) issued by the chief on a "exceptional case" basis....

the only thing that might be worse than losing your life in a car accident might be surviving one and having to live knowing you took someone else's.

My neighbor across the street was run down by a retired Cop as she was jogging.  It was about 7 PM, so just past sunset, and she was in a crosswalk.  Her failure was running with an iPod and expecting the crosswalk and crossing signal to keep her safe.

Her husband was more angry at her for not being more careful than the driver who made a right turn on red.  He was looking for traffic to his left, not pedestrians to his right.

It's all just a body count on the news until it's someone you've known for over a decade, watching their kids go from preschool to High School grads.

Here's the news on it ...

There's no mention of the retired police officer in the news....
My condolences. She looks familiar as I run around that area on occasion.

ya man stuffs been happening too close to home.

i think a lot of people dont realize that a lot of these vehicle related fatalities are gruesome and violent outcomes of mere carelessness.  Its not just death, its a horrible way to die when thousands of pounds of metal meets flesh at even moderate speeds.

I have yet to see an effective way of preventing illegal vehicles out in the public nor preventing unlicensed drivers and people with licenses suspended behind the wheel of such vehicles out in the public.  Don't get me started on the underground world of stolen cars and chop shops.  As a car guy myself, I am glad Maui doesn't have that ridiculous Recon bull$hit.  Funny thing is I read a lot of posts on a firearms forum about how; laws are followed by law abiding citizens and criminals just could care less until they get caught.

Yesterday Friday July 3rd I was driving home on freeway, Ewa bound straightaway between the School St off ramp and School St on ramp kind of by Liliha/Pali Hwy, Liliha foodland Mcdonalds area on freeway.

Im in Left most lane of the freeway, the fast lane, all of a sudden in front of me I see one KINGS SIZE MATTRESS FLYING, upright, in the air, above all the cars, A MOMENT LATER I SEE ONE BOX SPRING TAKE FLIGHT.  I immediately start to slow down, anticipating to stop.  I actually thought it was going to cause a pile up on the freeway.....  literally was like something out of a movie or a car insurance commercial.  Unreal.

Everybody on freeway going 55-65 mph, everybody had to slow down, and the car in front of me came to a complete stop so I had to stop completely to avoid hitting him.  Can you guess what happened next?

I GET REAR ENDED BY THE GUY BEHIND ME, heard the screech of his tires, then BOOM!    he hits me.  He couldn't stop in time.  Unreal.

I get out the car, the stupid mattress owners tryna get their shit off the freeway, Me and the guy who hit me completely blocking left lane.  NO ONE STOPS, everyone just keep on zooming by.  The only damaged sustained by my car is an imprint of the guy's license plate left on my rear bumper, a divet left by his license plate cover screws.  Nonetheless my insurance aint gonna cover anything less than my premium.  So IM STUCK WITH A SCRATCHED BUMPER or THE BILL TO GET IT RE-Painted!  I take care of my vehicle, I maintain it, a scratch is disheartening....

Thank god, because it felt worse, but goddamit it coulda been much better!
Those jackasses coulda secured their mattress correctly and the guy behind me should have saw it coming like I did !

These stupid f**ks never properly tied their king size mattress to their white pickup truck with rails,  They used 2 pieces of rope, not straps, to secure mattress and box spring.  And then they decided to drive 55 mph on freeway.

I got the pickup trucks license plate number but what good will that do?

Do we need to ban transporting mattresses on pickup trucks?
Or should we ban mattresses altogether?
Or should we ban stupid people?

File a police report, get 2 estimates, and ask the police to look up the owner of the pickup for you.  You can contact them through the mail and ask for reimbursement.  If they refuse, it's not that much to file a civil case and get a judgement.

Even though there isn't any significant body damage, bumpers are made to compress on impact.  If yours stayed compressed, it might need a body shop to extend it or even replace it.  That could be a pain.

Even if your insurance covers the damage, you get dinged for the deductible and for costing the insurance company money.

And if the insurance company pays, you still want to ask for (sue for) reimbursement of the deductible.

Did you call the Cops?  You should always call the Cops so there is an incident report for the insurance company with registration info for all vehicles involved.

no the police were not called, maybe I should have, but in my experience i've been told by cops that minor fender benders dont require cop's assistance, especially if no bodily injury and no major property damage had occurred, just need to file a claim with insurance.

Also, We were in a dangerous situation blocking the left most lane on the freeway with cars whizzing by, I just wanted to get out of there, lest something worse happen, sitting there waiting for cops to come did not seem like a good idea at the time...

Hell, even as we jumped in our cars and began to move people were honking us, they clearly did not know what happened, a-holes....

looks like bumper soaked up most of the impact and popped back out, it was not compressed enough to leave a dent.
thankfully only damage was scratches to paint on bumper

as u said i will still be stuck with paying up to premium if i decide to have it repainted, etc.
plus taking it to a body shop costs TIME and hassle. I need to decide if is worth the trouble.....

I need to call my insurance agent to see what can be done, if need I will file a police report because the mattress guys were obviously driving unsafely.

Just FYI, the guy that hit you from behind is at fault, his insurance will pay for your damage and your rates shouldn't go up. Hopefully you got the guys info. A word to the wise, ALWAYS get a police report, people will lie like hell to avoid responsibility, and I promise you, the first question from your insurance guy will be "Did you get a police report?" It's a pain in the ass, but will save you headaches in the long run. Ultimately it should fall on the mattress guy, but with no report it's going to be hard to prove.

Reason why liberals don't push for ban on cars is they don't want to be inconvenienced, they give kaka about safety or for the keiki when it comes to their convenience.  Whenever a tragic accident occurs, 95% focuses on the driver and not the vehicle.    These same hypocrites always blame the gun first.   Can you imagine the mayhem if every vehicle had to be brought to main HPD station for registration to verify the VIN by an officer?  POVs like firearms are tools that can be used for good or bad and both are necessary in today's world.
True that you always need to get a police report, but once a young guy backed into my parked car and luckily my neighbor called 911 to report.  In the end the kid had no current insurance and HPD told me you can't get blood from a stone.  Luckily my car had minor damage mostly to the license plate and frame.  I believe there's choke people driving with no insurance and probably don't even own the car.  "Uh officer, the car belongs to my friend's uncle's friend's niece  and they said I can drive it".
