As long as we're willing to accept behavior that should be unacceptable (assaulting someone for doing something they have a legal right to do), we legitimatize that behavior.
I agree with every one of your points. The problem, however, is multifaceted.
The comment I quoted is true. But, think about homeless people who are treated quite often as criminals by the city, in particular law enforcement. They may actually be breaking laws by camping in certain spots, using public facilities reserved for park visitors, doing drugs, and so on. They would want to stay off the Cops' radar as much as possible.
Brower said on the News tonight he did not take any video or pictures of any persons, nor did he take pictures inside any of the tent dwellings. The kids who stole his camera erased any pictures he took, so we really have to take him at his word without any proof to the contrary.
My question to you would be, if someone is invading their privacy, do you think the homeless have any intention of calling the Cops? I think the kids did what they have been taught. You don't like what you see someone doing, you get one or more friends to back you up, and you teach them a lesson.
While I don't agree Brower is to blame, I do think he should have not tried it alone while "taking a walk." I hope he at least learned that lesson!
