Holy shit that's scary..
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

For what it's worth, here are 2 pictures of KKM kabooms.
One pic was at KHSC almost exactly 2 years ago.
The other pic is the current topic bbl.

As I recall, the kaboom 2 years ago was almost certainly a bullet stuck in the bbl. The picture seems to support that conclusion.
In this new kaboom there is a bright spot in the bore at about the same location, but I don't see any bulge.
So I'm not even going to try to make any sort of guess.

Apparently the word on the street is if you want to shoot reloads in your 40, 45 and 10mm Glocks you should replace the stock barrel.

I think that is an Aftermarket barrel, am I right?

I think it looks funny that the barrel split so perfectly longitudinally. I have never seen a barrel split like that before.

Yeah that struck me as odd too.  From the KKM site:

Quote
All KKM barrels are made using certified 416R gun-barrel quality stainless steel bar stock. These barrels are then heat treated and vacuum tempered to 45 RC. All of our barrels are CNC machined to obtain superior dimensional tolerances over stock. Because of our advanced proprietary button rifling process, all KKM barrels offer greater accuracy over stock barrels. Our Glock barrels come with fully supported SAAMI spec. match chambers for shooting factory or reloaded ammunition.

Hypothetically speaking I'm wondering if it's a combo hot load and a manufacturing mistake such as with heat treatment.

Teichi - thank you for posting pics.

It just stuns me to think that anyone would design a barrel to fail in that manner.  I don't understand how the barrel would split horizontally like that.

Also I was shooting a couple of weeks back and a guy had an issue with his pistol.  Turned out to be a live round on top of a squib.  The barrel in that case (HK) bulged and locked up the slide but there was no other signs of failure such as bulged slide, expanded (polymer) frame or anything else I could see.

HKs are actually tested with a squib load when they are torture testing

I have confidence that the large manufacturers/barrel suppliers would test and QC test their products.  I wonder how many of these aftermarket guys continue QC testing their products.
