Open carry and the future of arms
« on: August 03, 2015, 08:47:19 AM »
The psychological impact upon a people who are not exposed to the presence of open carried arms by citizens as a semi frequent experience eventually leads to a societies rejection of arms.
Without the common practice of open carry, the right to keep and bear arms will be removed.

Think carefully about the above and then share your thoughts on the subject of concealed carry without a practiced open carry.

IMO, the thought people losing it just when some open carry is just due to the fact that people are not used to it.  The best example I will post is, thongs/G-strings type bikinis.  When women started wearing these at the beach when it was first introduced, many people were offended.  Granted it was the older crowd (and women who will never look as good rockin the same bikini) afraid of change.  Go to the beach now, common sight to see.  So IMO, if it is a common sight to see, it eventually becomes the norm.

Another note, I would bet mostly young men and some older men never opposed both, open carry and thongs/G-string bikinis.

Regardless of psychological ramifications I don't like open carry and would take CCW over open carry any day of the week.

On the other hand if open carry was my only option I would take it in a heartbeat.... Just let me defend myself.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

Open carry is good, aiming a pistol, or what appears to be a pistol at a road where a car travels about every second with homes right across the street, and an elementary school next to those while some ass racks the slide back repeatedly is not acceptable.

I have to disagree with your theory. I don't think absence of open carry will lead to the demise of the 2nd amendment.
But who really knows? My crystal ball is broken.
...
Re concealed without open. If you theorize that you MUST have open WITH concealed carry, then I disagree.
What, Me Worry?

I have open and concealed carried where legal. I personally prefer concealed carry, but don't mind open carry especially in certain circumstances. I do believe that many have been "deconditioned" to seeing "regular" folks carrying firearms and that has, in part, contributed to some of the concerns voiced about open carry. We can see this phenomena occur over and over again as concerned citizens call 911 about legal open carriers and police illegally stop these open carriers simply because they are open carrying.

However, will the demise of the Second Amendment be conditioned on the widespread acceptance of open carry? No.

The demise of the Second Amendment will come when the few active and vocal gun owners can no longer sustain their efforts because the majority of gun owners just don't get involved. The demise of the Second Amendment will follow the seemingly ever increasing apathy of the majority of gun owners who think someone else will shoulder the burden of legislative advocacy. The demise of the Second Amendment will come when gun owners are split from others by the type of gun they use or the shooting activities they are involved in and fail to see the need for solidarity in dealing with the constant assaults on our freedoms.

You want to work toward preserving our Second Amendment rights? Great. Do so in a collaborative and constructive manner. Don't launch personal attacks on other gun owners who might disagree with your personal stances on issues. Work to integrate the various shooting communities so that when push comes to shove, we are all working in our best interests. Advocate involvement in the legislative process and voting for gun-friendly candidates. And mostly, don't be an internet warrior, prone to moaning an groaning about how bad things are while all you do (not saying you do this, just making a general statement...) is sit behind your keyboard and complain.

I'll get off my soapbox now.....

Maybe if we attempted concealed carry with thongs/G-strings type bikinis everybody would be OK with it.
Nobody would look at the gun or care if they did.

Some would need a permit to wear such thongs/G-strings, not everyone looks great wearing one.

Count me out.  I have a restraining order prohibiting me from even wearing shorts.
