A off-duty sheriff caught the guy at magnum. Read HPD's facebook page, they are completely misinformed. They said there are "required" questions that need to be asked prior to purchasing ammo.
Bullshit, I was there.
Go tell HPD that
they said an off-duty mainland sheriff held the guy while art called HPD, and it was the sheriff who caught on to the problem.
I don't have to tell them, I know the truth.
The guy came in and said, "I need some ammo" Art asked, for what kind of gun? The guy said, " A small one".
Art, being himself, told the guy that there's a lot of different guns, he said "Wheres the gun?"
The guy said "In the car"
Art told him to go get it.
At the time, Art was on the phone holding with HPD records.
When the guy went to the car, Art told whoever he was talking to that he bets that it was a stolen gun.
So the guy brings the gun back in his pocket. It was a little Rossi revolver.
Art says, let me see it. The guy hands it to Art and as Art is inspecting the gun, he asks the guy "Where did you get this gun?
(At those point the "Off duty" officer walks in)
The guy says " I bought it"
Art asks "where did you buy it?", "When you bought it, you didn't know what caliber of gun you were buying?"
"Who did you buy it from?"
Then Art told the guy that he would have to call in the gun to see if it was stolen before he could sell him any ammo.
The guy got all nervous and said "Just give me the gun back"
So Art who was already on the phone with HPD started giving the serial number to them and the guy tries to leave.
At this point the off duty officer identifies himself to the guy and tells him to not go anywhere.
When the HPD call determines the gun is stolen, the off duty officer tells the guy that he's going to wait until uniformed officers arrive.
A few minutes later, three officers walk through the door and take the guy upstairs to talk to him.
There's how it happened.
So in a way, what HPD posted was true, the off duty officer did hold the guy there until uniformed officers arrived.
