Has anyone used Crisco to lube their firearms before?
I think, therefore I am armed.

No I haven't used Crisco or Fireclean. Currently the lube of choice is a mix of Lubriplate 130-A and Ballistol.
Edit: I though you were talking about this Crisco (shortening)I might use this to lube if I had too.

Well, I used to use Crisco or whatever the generic stuff is for building turbine engines for the US Army's M1 Abrams.  I never questioned why this particular product was used, I just rolled with it.

I have used Fireclean on some firearms just to see if it lives up to it's claims.  While others, I use a mix of various automotive lubricants.

"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

I've heard blackpowder shooters use Crisco as lube for patch and ball.

Right before the OP posted this thread I had already ordered Fireclean. It came in and I sort of felt ripped off. I tried cleaning one of my revolvers with it. And to be honest it was uneventful. I felt M-Pro 7 did a slightly better job. But I did an application treatment of the areas that get the worst carbon and dirt. Including both ends of the cylinder. I shot the revolver again today and used Fireclean to clean it. And I have to say it made cleaning my revolver's worst areas a breeze. It took me very little time and effort to clean all the worst areas. Plus they worst area on the barrel side of the cylinder came cleaner than I have ever been able to get it since I have owned it.

I probably will not use this product on my semi-auto pistols as they never get dirty enough that a little Hoppe's, Gun Scrubber or M-Pro 7 can't deal with quickly and easily. Since revolvers get much dirtier I will use this on all of them. Next step is using Fireclean on my AR's and Garand.

Is it Crisco? I don't don't know but it did such a great job after treatment I am going to treat all of my revolvers. I am actually very happy with the time and effort I saved by using it. Now I feel it is worth what I paid for it.
