« on: October 09, 2015, 10:41:01 PM »
Hello everyone, I noticed rust specks on my Glock slide. What is the safest way to remove the rust and prevent it from happening again? I already have a dehumidifier. Thanks guys!

Pictures would be helpful.

I actually have the same issue as well.  Kept in a safe with a dehumidifier too.
Is it on the entire slide or only where you grip the slide?  I'm guessing mine is from the oils on my hand, as that's the only place I handle the slide after cleaning.

I put some corrosion inhibitor on it last night.

Will check it later today. Hope it does the trick!

If they're specks, it's probably surface rust. Apply a generous amount of oil (any multi purpose oil will do) on the affected areas and let it soak in for awhile. Then rub it with light to moderate pressure using a soft cloth or cotton balls. It is important to keep it lubricated so add more oil as necessary while you work the rust away.  This is the least aggressive method that should preserve the finish and a good starting point. Once it's removed, clean and lube as usual. If it's worse and has gotten into the finish, there are other methods depending on how far you want to go with it. As for preventing this in the future? You can spend a load of money on all the fancy stuff out there or just follow basic inspection and maintenance procedures before putting your weapons away.

I stopped using dehumidifiers a long time ago, and developed a habit of wiping a light coat of oil on all metal parts and then only handling them with gloves as I put them away. It's simple and I've not had any rust issue is many years.

just over lube the guns so much that they soak into the liners of your cases or safe and you have to wash your hands after you handle them.

im kidding, but i did used to do that when i bought my first rifle, and for all the other inconveniences it causes, it DOES prevent rust, haha.

If the rust doesn't come off, glock has pretty good customer service and warranty.  Newer glocks don't have the same finish as the older ones and a lot of people have rust issues with them.  My slide started to rust by the ejection port and slide serrations with very little use.  It was also stored in a dehumidified safe. I sent it in and glock replaced the whole pistol no charge.
