I don't know anything about AMSEC safes. So I have a really dumb question. Is there a key back up on your safe? A lot of electronic safes have them. Some don't. Just in case you may have forgotten...

Thanks for the reply Inspector .I don't have any key access on this safe .Hopefully cord issue ? thus not to go the drilling route because it is really expensive. Will try call other locksmith that AMSEC provided.

I've always wondered about boxes with electronic locks only.
There aren't many electronic devices in my house that last a long time.
Most every thing that runs on batteries crap out when the batteries leak.
I work with electronics and I don't trust them any further than I can spit.
Keep us posted on your unfortunate experience.

If you already called tech support and they did nothing for you, chances are a locksmith is your only real option.  Maybe if you get an identical keypad it'll let you in, assuming the pad is the problem.  If you can't find someone that will loan you one to test, maybe order one from a place that accepts returns?

If the battery is replaceable from outside, and you tried that, try it again with brand new fresh batteries.  I've had used batteries sneak in where I kept good ones many times.  :)

Make sure the batteries are GOOD QUALITY BRAND.  Voltage isn't everything.  Cheap batteries may not send enough power even though the thing tests at the proper voltage.

Use Duracell or Energizer and always alkaline or lithium.

I have no idea about locksmithing but maybe you could research the drilling it open option and see if it is something you can do yourself.

How much does the locksmith want?

Costco has a 14 gun electronic lock safe for 400 bux.
I immediately thought of you swearing at a steel box.
Btw...
That costco thing could hold 14 red ryder bb guns or maybe 3 or 4 real rifles.

  I saw that but the electronic keypads are such a turn off.... If they replaced the keypad with 3 or 4 padlock hasp locks I would scoop it

You're supposed to be able to pull the key pad and replace the battery in the keypad....................'cause I thought the exact same thing and that's why I don't like electronic keypads, but yeah a dead battery in and of itself shouldn't be the reason why the safe cannot be opened.

I wouldn't own a safe that had an electronic keypad without some sort of back up form of access. JMHO

Makes me start wondering what maintenance a safe in Hawaii needs. I have a mechanical safe, but I sure don't want it to rust shut. Anyone know if a regular safe needs much preventative maintenance?
