They might push for it now.

On the other hand, they might also point to it and say "look, no guns and everyone lived, but if it were a gun more people would have died."

You always seem to know what the anti-gunners are going to say...

The "Mass Shooting Tracker" website lists all shootings for the last 3 years.  These are include shootings with 4 or more people SHOT in one event, not just deaths.

http://shootingtracker.com/wiki/Main_Page

Of the 318 events in 2015, there were 393 total fatalities and 1,181 nonfatal injuries.  That's a ratio of 33%.  A full two thirds of mass shooting shooting victims in 2015 survive.

I read 2 of the 4 stabbing victims had to be airlifted to a bigger hospital due to the severity of their wounds.  I also read police and other first responders were on the scene in minutes.  The Cops took out the maniac quickly.

All these factors play a part in whether the victims make it or not, not only the weapon used.  Had the attacker locked himself with hostages in a building for an hour, the injured may have not received help in time.

Many stabbing victims do not make it.  I have heard of quite a few stabbing deaths on Oahu the last  two years.

The Cops SHOT the attacker holding the knife.  Deadly force to stop deadly force.  The U.K. is having rallies to ask people to turn in their knives because of all the knife attacks there.

Sorry, but trading gun violence for knife violence is not a solution if you're the victim ...

Yeah, those statistics always happen to someone else or somewhere else.

Riiiiiight.

So there's obviously no reason for me to carry a self-defense firearm all the time.

Riiiiiight.

Especially no reason to carry one in declared gun-free zones.

Riiiiight.

After all, I've been carrying for over ten years, and nothing has happened to actually require firing.

Therefore, the statistics indicate that I'll never need one, so it's ridiculous for me to go armed all the time.

Riiiiight.

Yeah, those statistics always happen to someone else or somewhere else.

I do believe that the radical and crazy notion that the Founders meant what they said, is gradually soaking through the judicial system.

You never carry for the things that are more likely to happen.  You prepare for the worst case while hoping for the best.

I don't have a first aid kit at home and in the truck for regular days.  It's there for my worst day.

The identity of the suspect in the University of California at Merced stabbing incident was finally released on
Thursday morning. Faisal Mohammad was named as the suspect. One of the victims, Byron Price, said that
Mohammad was smiling as he was stabbing people, a clear indication that he was enjoying himself. He was
killed by police after stabbing four people.

While authorities have said they do not know Mohammad’s motive, the Muslim terrorist group ISIS sent out a tweet
that perhaps makes Mohammad’s motive clear.

Minutes after Mohammad’s name was released as the attacker, the ISIS-linked Twitter account sent out
“May Allah accept him,” in Arabic. This account has reportedly been linked by terrorism experts to previous ISIS propaganda.

Just last week, this Twitter account sent out a series of videos calling for lone wolf stabbing attacks.

Could this be an explanation of Mohammad’s motive?

Knife attacks are so much less dangerous than someone with a gun ...

Quote
The suspect, Alton Nolen, 30, was recently fired from Vaughan Foods in Moore prior to Thursday’s attack.
Moore Police Department Sgt. Jeremy Lewis told KFOR that Nolen drove to the front of the business and
struck a vehicle before walking inside. He then attacked Colleen Hufford, 54, stabbing her several times
before severing her head
. He also stabbed another woman, 43-year-old Traci Johnson, at the plant.

He says sarcastically.

MDog,

Is this really a discussion you want to start ? I mean continue ?

Columbine 13 dead, 21 wounded
Virginia tech 32 dead, 17 wounded
Sandy hook 26 dead
Aurora 12 dead 70 wounded
San Ysidro McDonalds 21 dead 19 wounded
Luby's 23 dead 27 wounded

Think these would've happened with a knife ? No.
Were they preventable, mostly no. Except maybe ccw.

This incident, 4 wounded.
The incident you cite, 1 dead 1 wounded

You made your point above with your response to EEF the first time. Let it go.

Of course guns are more deadly. That's why we're not fighting for the right to carry knives (at least not yet)
Guns are also much more effective at protecting yourself and others and stopping the threat.

And no I'm not the forum police, or a mod, just a guy with an opinion.

Guns are machines and can kill more easily (less effort).  However, in the hands of a skilled, conditioned person, and using less direct attacks, I think the damage a knife can do is just as deadly.

Comparing a knife used in an "active stabbing" mass attack to a gun in the same situation is obviously giving the gun the advantage.

But, there have been cases where the killer went to the homes of selected victims, killing them less openly and in smaller spaces than a school.

Would the numbers you listed for school shootings have happened with a knife?  How can you definitively answer "no"?  If the knife attacks happen in college dorm rooms 1 or 2 people at a time, with no alerts or gun shots, is there any doubt the killer could have killed at will until someone manages to get away or someone else sees something and raises an alarm?  Ted Bundy did a pretty good job at a Florida Sorority, and he didn't even have a knife or gun!

Quote
Beginning at about 2:45 am he bludgeoned Margaret Bowman, 21, with a piece of oak firewood as she slept, then garroted her with a nylon stocking.
He then entered the bedroom of 20-year-old Lisa Levy and beat her unconscious, strangled her, tore one of her nipples, bit deeply into her left buttock, and sexually assaulted her with a hair mist bottle.
In an adjoining bedroom he attacked Kathy Kleiner, breaking her jaw and deeply lacerating her shoulder;
and Karen Chandler, who suffered a concussion, broken jaw, loss of teeth, and a crushed finger.

Tallahassee detectives later determined that the four attacks took place in a total of less than 15 minutes, within earshot of more than 30 witnesses who heard nothing.

Using a knife like a firearm in an open mass attack is always going have a lower chance of "success", but that in no way means the knife is less capable in the hands of a well-motivated murderer.

Tactics matter.  Substituting a knife for a gun with no consideration for the situation and killer's abilities is avoiding reality.

Just over a week ago in Xinjiang, China, a knife attack left 50 people dead, and the suspects responsible for the killings are still on the run.
According to government sources, the attack was carried out by a group of at least 9 suspects who attacked workers and security guards at a
coal mine in Xinjiang. The government has blamed the attack on “separatists,” but it is possible that separatist movements are being used as
a political scapegoat.

“The damage of the attack was very severe—that is why we are controlling [the flow of] information about the incident so strictly, lest we frighten
Han migrants in Aksu,” one government source told local reporters.

It was even estimated by some sources that the death count could be as high as 110.

Dude, don't start an argument with me about posts I made disputing another member's anti-gun statement, and then try to act like my comments were the problem.

You started this exchange.  If you can't come up with anything better than personal insults, then you should have just gone on by my posts without comment.

I guess you were never trying to have an honest discussion, were you?

He was shot dead by police.  I believe your comment about bringing a knife to a gunfight was true, even though you meant it  facetiously.
