Has anyone gotten to the point where they knew it was their last one ?

Like I got the one's I wanted/needed, I'm pretty much done buying and just gonna go out and shoot 'em.

How'd you know.
Ran out of safe space....funds...interest...want versus need...got what you wanted.....wife got fed up......etc.

Or will that never happen to you ? Just one more.  :D

I started downsizing about 2 years ago; looked at my collection and was like, "Why?"

It was mostly due to a change in philosophy with regards to firearms. I'm all about effectiveness and efficiency, so I started assessing what was most important to me. The first chopping block came with which caliber was the most effective for my purposes, then moved into a desire to have platforms that share a common caliber. After that, it came down to how simple the weapon system was, so anything that was overly complicated mechanically, didn't have readily available cheap parts and wasn't easily maintained was axed. Finally, it all came down to excess. Did I need 30 of this type of rifle? Are 10 shotguns really necessary? What will I do with 8 handguns?

I think the last one is on the horizon, but I could easily call what I have 'the last' as well.

I started doing what your doing Q.

I went with the Noah theory. 2 of each caliber I chose to run.

1 is none, 2 is one.

Except high power bolt rifles.

When you reach the age where you start giving away your guns to your kids, that could be a sign that your gun buying days are over.
...

Or you just need more space for new stuff

Or you still got bronchitis ?
Ain't nobody got time for dat !

Still hacking.  Seems to be going around the office, too.  I'm hoping the ~ 3-week healing period most are reporting holds true.  Should be better by the weekend then.

If not, I might have to break down and go to Kaiser.

I was buying for 2 -- my older daughter and myself.

I had the minimum of 5 types I started buying:  shotgun, bolt rifle, semi rifle, revolver, and semi pistol.  This was our training mix.  Get to know these, and everything else is a variant.

Well, then I wanted a 9MM for her and a .45 for me.  A .38 special for her, and a .357 for me.  A 10/22 for her, and a 5.56 for me.

We hit 10 firearms very quickly.

I was fascinated with the history of Mosin-Nagants.  Started with one 91/30, then added 2 M44s, and a 91/30 Hex.  Each has it's own unique characteristics.

Then I wanted to BUILD an AR-15.  Then my daughter did, too.  I tried a KSG shotgun at the fun shoot, and had to have one.

Then OGC had an Arsenal AK-47 on sale.  Then Sig offered 2 free mags, a range pistol bag, and I found the 1911 I wanted on sale all at once!

I gave my daughter 4 firearms to take with her to  the mainland when she moved, so that opened up more safe room!

I have 4 firearms I see as collectibles, so I don't intend to shoot them.  The rest all have uses or designs that make then unlike the others I own.

I tried to confine my purchases to a limited number of ammo calibers as well: .22LR, 9MM, .45ACP, .38SP/.357Mag, .223/5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, and 12Ga.  I have barrels to swap on one CZ rifle that use .17HMR and .22WM, but I have the .22LR barrel installed now.

That's 3 handgun, 3 rifle, one shotgun, and one dual-purpose ammo (.22LR for handguns and rifles).

I'm very content with my collection.  What I do now is decide on what my next one will be IF I find a very good deal on it.  I ignore all other "great buys" until I take care of the one on my list.  Saves me from a constant cycle of impulse buys and needing another safe!

Got 4 chainsaws and don't plan to retire anyone.   Always room for another when I get the bug.   2 Stihls, 1 Husqvarna, 1 Echo.

I'm good to go when you both are. Just let me know. Maybe next week then?

Hope you feel better MD.

At minimum 1 pistol and 1 long arm for each adult in the family.  More than that is just bonus. Shared ammo as much as possible.

I've not bought anything for a good while now but will probably do when my kids grow up some more.

So I guess I'm on my "last one" for now... until it's not. :)

I thought the answer to this was buying a bigger safe? Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
