Can 556 AR accept some kind of 308/762 drop-in upper?
« on: March 10, 2016, 12:26:03 PM »
Guys, can a 223/556 AR lower accept some kind of 308/762 drop-in upper?

Is there such a thing?

Change upper and change mags, and good to go?

Nope needs a larger mag well, closest you'll get is like 300 blk or 6.8 Spc

Colt makes a 308 lower that takes 556 upper. Not sure if the kit is sold yet.

Look for an AR-10. Or an AR-308

Yeah ok thanks guys. I know AR-10 but if there was an upper option, it means no "hassle" again with yet another lower.

The magwell size is much bigger for the AR-10.  Unfortunately, you'll need a new lower too.

Colt has a convertible out.   It uses an adapter magwell for the 308.   There are bolt action uppers available for the 556 lower.  But they are single shot.  Just buy a AR308 based on DPMS Pattern. There are a lot of parts available compared to Armalite AR10's.  All the good barrels made are all AR308.  To make one for the AR10 you end up making custom barrels.
