Reloading on Oahu
« on: March 10, 2016, 06:31:48 PM »
I know this has been asked and answered, but the last info I have seen is about a year old so I am breathing life into the question again.

I am new to Oahu; Navy brought me over from San Diego, and I am looking to reload for my .264LBC (and a couple others).  Is there a reasonable priced place for powder and primers?

In San Diego, we would do group buys for powder and get 8-10 folks to buy in to a lot of powder to avoid the Hazmat and reduce the shipping cost, does that ever happen here?  I know Wiedners doesn't care if it is a mixed order of powder and primers as long as it meets a threshold for no hazmat fee.

Finally, the military regularly sells triwalls of brass, usually once fired mil brass in 5.56, 9mm, or 7.62 in the ~2000lb range.  These are usually mixed with blank brass (junk) and the last person I talked to in SD that bought one of these had 20-30% loss due to blanks or crushed brass.  Is anyone interested in pursuing the purchase of bulk brass like this?

SEC is has pretty good prices locally for powder/primers.

Bulk brass is available locally, but the prices get bid up more than I'd like to pay.  The brass is usually sold in tri-walls, so the weight is usually greater than 2500#.  7.62 & 5.56 blanks can be trimmed down and reloaded.  You can check out the brass before you bid since you have base access.

You can try KaleoArms. They're usually on this forum, but they don't always post. Here's the website: https://www.kaleoarms.com/

They're based out of Honolulu and they have more brass than you could ever fire in a lifetime. Their prices are also better than all other mainland sites. I haven't seen anywhere that sells for cheaper.

You'd probably become extremely popular on the island if you decide to organize a powder group buy. I think primers on island are priced pretty close to mainland so you probably won't save much by ordering online.

Prime Sports is building their powder selection located in Nimitz center,  Security Equipment on Young St. has powder on the shelf, Windward gun shop (now located in Kalihi on Sand Island road) has powers on the shelf, Young Guns in Mapunapuna has a limited selection.

All great places to get what you need.

J Hara Store in Kaimuki (east side) sells powder and some other reload equipment.   Not sure but Roy's Fishing Supply in Aiea (close to JBPHH) sold powder at least a few years back.
Best to call around to see what's available.

Most of my powder and primers come from Roy's Fishing Supply or Prime Sports.
