I like Noveske lowers and do the majority of my work off of them.
As for the AK if you want low profile, I would stick more with the Ulitmak or similar product that replaces the gas tube. I do run the RS Regulate on more than one rifle, but the railed gas tube set up is the best for keeping a lower profile.
I am currently awaiting this rail exact rail and picatinny gas tube to arrive from SLR Rifleworks. Which come to look at it, is exactly what is in the video above. I have a couple of their AR rails and like the work. The railed dust cover is from Texasweaponsystems.com. Not convinced on the dust cover as I really wouldn't want to mount an optic on it anyway, so I am lost on its utility and I already run the RS Regulate. Pretty much the RS Regulate mounts NV optic, so it is easy on / off and the front rail runs the red dot, which stays mounted. Red dot to NV optic with a simple throw of a lever.
I went with the Arsenal SM-13 first because all it required was a simple mount to the receiver. Didn't realize that it would put the optic so high. I guess I could swap out the stock for something more AR/M4 like, but not that many stocks for milled receivers. I found couple CAA ones that looked promising, but sort of wanted to keep the original stock, at least for now.
The gasblock/handguard mount was always an interesting option and now that I don't think the scope mount method will work for me, that's probably where I'll end up. I've heard of the Ultimak rails as well and I think one friend has it on his AK, but I don't shoot with him that often.
Now that SLR Rifleworks setup looks AWESOME! My next AR upper will have the BCM Keymod rail, so that setup would be great! I really like that it doesn't require any MODs to the base gun. The AK 11.5" MID Keymod - A looks promising, though pricey when you add the full length gas tube. Another thing to add to the "to buy" list.
I've looked at the Texas Weapon System dust cover rail and I liked the concept at first, but I always wondered how much that cover moves. Seems like in a couple online video reviews that it wasn't a problem. I'm not really into making my AK into a precision gun (despite the thread title), but I'd still like to have confidence that the optic isn't going to be moving around.
