If money and availability were not a factor, and you could shoot any .22 ammo you wanted to, what would you put down the barrel of your favorite rifle/pistol?

I've never been a big 22LR shooter. I have a 22LR rifle and ammo but never really dug deep into the topic.

From what I understand, 22LR is not generally reliable mostly because of the design of the cartridge, where the bullet can more easily be bent out (as compared to 9mm, 45ACP, etc.).

Are you guys in agreement?

I have a variety of Federal, Remington and CCI but mostly buy and shoot Blazers.  They are cheap when on sale and is the recommended ammo for my Tactical Solutions Glock conversion kit.  So far no misfires or malfunctions using it on the TS kit.  I use my 22s for having fun and not for trying to get the smallest groups possible and that is the reason I don't spend money on expensive match ammo.

It depends generally on the gun and ammo. But generally speaking I don't agree. All of my guns are reliable with most or all ammo I have ever tried. The Ruger 10/22 is reliable with most ammo. I have some picky guns but still reliable with the right ammo. There are some guns and caliber conversions that just are not designed well. Those are the few exceptions that give 22 reliability a bad name. The .22 is very sensitive to dirty actions. So cleaning is important. Some guns can run the 4-500 rounds some can run thousands before reliability becomes a factor. But that can be said for most guns of any caliber.

Buy a good quality modern gun like any Ruger, Browning, Smith and reliability won't be an issue.

CCI Minimags, HP or solids.  SV is good stuff too.

I used to have this list, more like a matrix, of which type of .22 ammo each of my guns would function with, and how well they performed with it.  At some point, I just got tired of the bother.  Stocking fie or more different flavors of ammo, keeping straight which flavor to run on which gun... bah!  So I started a search to find one, and only one, type of ammo that would both function reliably in each of my guns and also perform decently, if not exceptionally.

It took about two years, multiple thousands of rounds, and extensive note-taking.  The winner?

CCI standard velocity.

I still buy a box or two of high velocity in a couple of brands, just to have for trying out friends' guns.  But for myself?  CCI Std, nada mas.
