I think it is nice that we know the truth about people when they are alive. And especially when they are running for office. But this guy is dead. His book and movie are all but at the bottom of the most popular lists. His wife and child are now going to have to deal with the shame and discredit.

Does anyone here really care?

It will make no difference in this world to anyone except those that don't want people to honor our heroes. I say we should have just let sleeping dogs lie. JMHO

"Navy officials could not say why Kyle’s separation papers contained inaccurate information about his medals,"

So it sounds like all we know is that the medal count mentioned in the book is wrong. We don't know whether Chris Kyle actually distorted his record or how this all came about.

According to two current Navy officials, inaccurate information about Kyle’s awards is also contained in his separation document, known in the military as a DD214, which usually reflects a veteran’s official service record. Kyle’s DD214 form, which lists two Silver Stars and six Bronze Stars with Valor among his decorations, also differs from the number of Bronze Stars with Valor — five — that Kyle listed in his book.

So did he over count or under count ?

Don't really care.  Why would he intentionally misstate or lie.  It's not like it would be sealed info like obummers transcripts.  Just some flake 'journalist' looking to create a story where there is none, and at the same time trying to smear the name of a decorated veteran who gave his all for his country.

Thank you Chris Kyle, and all other service members for your dedicated service and sacrifices you have made for me and America.

It's not like this would be the first instance of an "inaccuracy". Former Navy Seal Jesse Ventura filed a lawsuit against Kyle for defamation re a claim in Kyle's book  and won "an award for half a million dollars and $1.3 million for unjust enrichment". Perhaps the judge and jury were incompetent, negligent or stupid, or perhaps Kyle was prone to occasional "inaccuracies".

So, amongst the many many service members that served with him only one guy and a 'journalist' claim a problem with the accounts?

Maybe more 'inaccuracies' will now be called out...  I'm sure...  they'll start a comin....  with their hands extended.

I wonder how accurate the accounts of Audie Murphy and Sargeant York are ????  Do you care?  Like I said, I don't.

On top of that, military records are not exactly known for their accuracy. Just ask my friend who had to receive a second set of vaccines a year after boot camp because records showed he never received them!

But would he lie about this in order to sell more books? If you were in the bookstore and saw that an author had 1 silver star would you snub the book, thinking to yourself "if only he had 2 silver stars I would buy it." It is a small detail that doesn't seem like it would matter to book sales. Maybe he just averaged the two records together, 3 bronze stars vs 6 bronze stars. You can't have 4.5 bronze stars though, so just round up to 5.

DD214 and military records in general have a lot of mistakes on them.  I assume the numbers in the book and the DD214 include bronze and silver medals for valor and non-valor.

A lot of service members don't know what they have.

No way to know either way.  Plenty of items were left off my dd214's upon separation.  Several were listed that I did not earn.  No medals of valor however.  I ate chow at the al Assad air base in Iraq in May or June 2007.  He sat across from me and our team. Nice guy and one hell of a sailor.  Nothing but respect here and zero Fu#ks given to those that don't care for him.  Walk a mile in his boots and talk to me about it then.

He earned, live and served honorably as a Navy SEAL.
