I'm moving from WA to Maui 8/1/16 to fulfill my wife's life-long dream to live in Hawaii, but giving up CCW is freaking me out.
I confess I am a hopeful newbie, and I know many of you have survived for years in Hawaii with its horrible anti-gun laws.
However, I'm curious if the 2A movement has a coordinated effort to push for shall-issue and how I can support it?
I realize timing is everything, and you have to pick your battles.
I assume there's are bill(s) already prepped proposing shall-issue CCW waiting for the right time if it ever comes.
My point is...sign me up if there's anything I can do to help further the shall-issue cause in Hawaii.
My theory was to propose a strict but better law to show the public there are hoops that have to be jumped through...but still making it much more possible to get a CCW?
i.e. requiring X hours of training and full competency demonstration.
I see idealistic people swing for the fences on issues and fall short because most people just don't get it and are swayed by the emotional arguments against fundamental freedoms and values.
However, we have lost our freedom one regulation and one bit at a time so it seems like that's how it has to be won back.
I realize a "nuke" like a national CCW sounds nice, but that's a long shot so we have to slog it out in the trenches in the mean time.
I'm from WA where grass roots movements start initiatives to force the government to do things.
The government frequently fights back, but at least the people a voice and some recourse.

I believe a lot more violence, terrorism, etc. is coming to the mainland and there will be a tug-o-war between the the people who don't want to be victims and the pin heads that think disarming law abiding citizens will somehow protect them from evil/violent criminals.
The natural tendency is for things to land on the side of bigger more controlling government, but maybe there's a shred of sanity where people realize we should consider being armed and situationally aware before they are faced with "routine" terrorist attacks.
I think 10% of any group is scum and 10% will be scum if they are pretty sure they can get away with it.
On the other side 10% are positive leaders/sheep dogs that point the way and 10% will will step up when the situation calls for it.
That leaves 60% of people who live life in the herd munching away and moving with the crowd.
I think people who are members of this forum are already in the 20% of leaders.
Thank you for letting me be a part of it.
